Anyone wanting more...?

Post by Kapalina »

Just a curious question, does anyone feel as though they wanted more missions and a bigger map? I felt a bit like i did with Star Wars - Knights of the Old Republic; i thought it could of been longer, like Final Fantasy 7 longer (well maybe not that extreme but longer all the same).

I'd certainly like to see maybe some expansion packs or a sequel. What do you think?

what he said

"The worst sins are those which you are going to regret the most not having done them when you could!"

"What you see isn't always what you get. Some people show you a palette of colors but in reality they are just painting gray."

For me the Oceanside Hotel was pretty much worth the price of admission alone, and I was kinda surprised as to how long it took me to make it through the game (those "first person shooter rpg's" usually are a lot shorter) but I think what will decide if we get or moneys worth or not is how much effort troika puts into narrowing the gap between this games performance and what the valve engine was designed to do. Hopefully a couple more patches and we will be looking at something better.

Also what I consider the most important factor is weather or not this is the next big "mod" game... is this the next game that will be kept alive for much longer than it should thanks to a loyal comunity? About this Im not sure... I can often sense the way this game was coded (for example most disciplines feel like high damage attacks with unique death animations) was more to serve the single player mission instead of providing an rpg "toolbox" for future developers. In other words I dont expect any Lan hosted "storyteller games" to be possible, or many of the other things that could of made this game really cool. At best I feel that all we can expect are new models, new cities and MAYBE if someone figures out how to do new disciplines (It has to be possible on the long run) a B J Zanzibar style collection of weird clans.

I'm astounded that other people feel this way; VtM:R was a vehicle of disappointment: linear, predicatible plot; horrendous AI; bad control system; no side quests and the worst sin: combat related. It also takes about 12 hours to complete from start to finish (as opposed to about 30-40 for VtM:B).

I suppose people have different preferences...

I terms of more: yes, definately, it would have been nice to have more side quests; but I fully expect to see a lot of community patches out soon.

At least you could use more disciplines in Redemption, i found it to be a bit onesided in Bloodlines. I was also a bit dissapointed with the amount of items and cash you could find. And what the hell happened with enchanted stuff such as rings to increase vampiric senses and strength, just to name a few ?

There were no "rings" or "enchanted items" in Bloodlines because they don't fit in with the source material. If you have played the Pen & Paper game you know that such things don't exisit, or at least not in any such way that you character would ever get possesion of them. The point of the game is "personal horror" not magical/supernatural dungeon stomping and loot scrounging. Rings of strength or gauntlets of +6 don't work in a game where your a vampire cursed by god. Granted there were a few fetish items in Bloodlines, but those were more for balance issues then actual enhancement and at least 3 of them are items the Tremere routienly create for their own use that could possibly fall into another kindreds hands.

As for multiple disciplines...they stayed close to the P&P with this as well. sure you can get disciplines other than your clan specific but its generally only the physical ones like fortitude, celerity and potence that are easy to manifest naturally. Others like Thaumaturgy are closely guarded secrets, and things like protean and obfuscate can be taught by someone with the knowlegde. From a game play mechanic it takes alot of XP to learn out of Clan disiplines and if you are taught you can only learn upto what the other person knows...ie they know protean 2, thats as high as you can learn until you meet someone who can teach you higher than level 2.

They way they did this in Bloodlines was very good IMHO.

Actually I really enjoyed the "underpowered" aspect of the game. First of all it does fit in nicely (as they could I mean) with the Pen and paper rpg but second of all... I really dislike rpg's where you end up being the chosen one etc etc and by the end you wield godlike powers and have 10 rooms worth of magical treasure (in your backpack, none the less). It's a personal preference of mine, I really like "underdog" survival stories. That's why the first silent hill will always be in my top 10.

So with bloodlines I LOVED the "survival" element of it. Every time I thought I was filthy ritch next thing I new I was down and out again and sometimes fights against as little as 3 guys at once was really dangerous (although I must admit, easier than I expected overall).

I mean the core of it, the heart of it, the idea they had... it's spot on. It's really the kind of game I like to play... just well you know, like I said it feels like they rushed the release and we ended up with a pretty and deep game that start's to fall apart at the seams the moment you take it out of the box.

Another aspect of this game that hasn't been mentioned much here is the insane replay value. I played as a persuasion/seduction/ranged/dominate LaCroix Ventrue first time around, and I can honestly say that it is a completely different game for my Protean/Brawl/Animalism Anarch Gangrel. When I play my Ranged/Thauramatgry (sp? always get that wrong)/ Dominate Camarilla Tremere, or a melee/stealth/security/hacking/Obsfuscate/Potence Nosferatu, the game will be new again. With Redemption you only had one path to follow, pretty much, and except for the online content (which wasn't that great in the first place), it got old fast. Here, I can see myself replaying the game 3-4 times, easy.
