No more experience for you!

Post by txa1265 »

Hi:

I'm a level 38 Mage (with very good battle skills ;) ), am currently 'doing some gathering' and have started to notice that in many cases I'm no longer getting rewarded with XP for kills - for instance, low level orcs just die, and if I check, I've gotten 0 XP from them. I still get XP from higher level enemies and quests.

Is this normal?

A couple of other questions:
- how do I denote spoilers here?
- I've not felt all that comfortable with trading ... I have lots of high value stuff, but never much to buy but potions. Is this right?

You should be getting minimal XP for killing orcs, even at level 38. But I could be wrong on this. Check Larian Studio's forum. Do you have the latest patch in place?

I'm glad you asked about spoilers. I'm going to post a sticky thread here about that. By the time you read it, it should be in this forum. :)

About trading: sell stuff. If it's low level, or something that's high level which you aren't going to use, sell it. Try to focus on one or two merchants. Selling only to them will raise their level of acceptance towards you, and get you far better deals. I regularly bought and sold from the blacksmith and mage at the Ars Magicana teleport location; later in the game, I transferred my mundane sales to the dwarven blacksmith. You'll need all the gold you can get for the really high level enchanting stones, eventually. And it's a good thing to keep plenty of the best potions in your inventory, too.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

I checked Larian forums, and apparently it *is* normal ... came across people who cheated themselves to ~level 160 and didn't get XP for *anything* they killed ... that doesn't sound like much fun - I don't mind dying, it is the realization that I said 'just another minute then I'll save' a few too many times when I die ;)

Thanks,

Mike

Just a note, from my albeit basic understanding of the 3rd edition rules(which I think this game uses?? If not stop reading this message LOL) the new way that XP is calculated is based on your character level vs Baddies lvl. So, the higher you are (Level wise, what you do on your own time is your business :p ) the less you earn from certain creatures. Basically, think of it in terms of a hero fighting a muscrat, how much real experience does he learn from this? Nothing, so being there is no XP awarded.

Again if I am completely off-base here, flood my email box with heckles saying I shouldn't post what I don't know about.

Enjoy.

Cort

It’s the sensible, logical thing to do, of course, which is why we don’t do it.
