Best Theme

Post by Daniel »

What is the best theme from BG2 (Soa & Tob) you heard? I prefer the music of the City Gates (also in Govern. district), reminds me of Keldron... :-)
I also like the Icewind Dale theme... that rocks too!

How about YOUR favourite song from Soa or any other RPG from Interplay??

The general Icewind Dale theme (also heard on the Neverwinter Nights trailer that came with BG2) is also one of my favorites. Lonelywood from HoW is another great piece. The epic battle/Gorion's fight music from BG1 is very cool, as is the basic daytime music. The music for PS:T's finale is one I really enjoy too, as well as the music from Fall-From-Grace's brothel (which has always sounded reminiscent of Chrono Trigger to me). Most of ToB's themes are excellent, though I'm especially fond of the Final Battle and Saradush under siege pieces.

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

The theme played during the BG1 end battle is awesome and so is the main theme for Icewind Dale.

I really liked the whole IWD/HOW soundtrack, especially the Kuldahar theme.BG2 had very little noticeable music, but ToB changed that to the better. The new ToB "Main Menu theme" is really great.

Ah, an original question. :)

The best RPG music I've heard was furnished by Dave Govett, over when Microprose was still churning out great RPGs and strategy titles. He studied late European medieval music, and transcribed some very fine examples to Master of Magic, Darklands, Magic: The Gathering, and a few other products. The real Medieval stuff is a lot more interesting than the moody imitations I've heard--even the few Renaissance tunes that were lifted for the taverns in BG2. :)
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Okay, No flames please....

But the BEST music I've heard in games belongs to:

1) Mechwarrior 2
2) Mechwarrior 2: Ghost Bear Legacy
3) Homeworld

The music in the mechwarrior games REALLY goes a long way to setting a feel for things. Unforntunately Mech 3 and Mech 4 fall short. So did Mercs.

As for the Music in Homeworld, not only was it VERY hypnotic, but it really helped to enhance the perspective that you were out, alone, in the deepest depths of space.

I still can't forget the awesome second mission in homeworld 2 where the raiders first show their heads after you probe the Khar Selim's wreckage. Awesome music cranks up as a fleet of fighters and corvette's start cranking their way towards you unsuspecting tailpipes..

I actually play BG2 without the tunes. I find them to be a bit annoying.

That interplay site didn't have many of the themes that I wanted. Anyone know where one can download some of the themes that you guys mentioned? I was able to extract the dragon fight theme and convert it into an MP3 but I'd rather look for some of these themes that are ready to go. It took me over an hour to locate and extract the dragon fight music from SoA, I'm sure it will take that long for some of the themes that I've heard and enjoyed.

My personal favorite themes:

Dragon music from SoA
Sendai fight music rocks

I just finished Sendai, haven't heard any themes after that.

Wait wait wait-if we're going to go "any" theme here, the Total Annihilation themes pwn j00. Far and away some of the best soundtrack I've ever heard, not to mention that the "conflict music" kick-ins was one of the first examples of it's kind. (not to mention that you could re-program it to use your own tunes, too, as any part of the sequences)

Yeah, I liked the TotalA music too, but, well, it just got annoying. Plus, too often you'd get a switch to battle music when only a single enemy bot would come into range, and, after it's dead, it would still drone on like your in some epic battle...

Good music, but I hated the implementation.

Well, the game Icewind Dale itself is in my opinion not very good, but the music is excellent!

Fight music in the Bridge District, it sounds like some 70's US cop show music!!
