Who is she?
And why is she always associated with vampires and evil?
Lilith
well, there are myths from pre-Biblical times that speak of Lilith as having been the first actual woman but because she refused to set herself as lower than man she was cast out of the garden and God created Eve instead.
in terms of Vampire, White Wolf has decided that Lilith was the person from whom Caine learned the disciples when he was cast out of the garden for killing Abel and was his lover for a time as well.
there is lots more to know about her but Lilith could be good or could be evil depending on how you see her...

Im really no expert but I made good money off doing a book report on "paradise lost" for someone so I have researched the subject a lot. I'll paint the outlines and hopefully someone with a college education will fill in the blanks or what I get wrong.
Lilith, historically speaking, its a pretty complicated figure. In the Judeo-christian scheme of things she first apears as a bit of a morality play and a blow against feminism.
Instead of the whole "adam was created and got lonely" thing they state that Adam and Lilith where created at the same time but Lilith refused to bend to Adams will so she was cast out of the garden.
Way back in the day the cristians used to demonize the pantheons of other religions so Lilith was quickly associated with becoming a demon, a succubii and condemned much like Cain. The whole succubii angle has also associated her character with vampires in the 20th century, and of course the name Lilith is asociated with millitant feminism as well.
Also she's supposedly the mate of Samael, a god of another religion (summarian I think) which the cristians turned into a cristian demon and decided that he would be who had corrupted Lilith with promises of infernal power.

Important to know about her is that she helped Caine develop the original Disciplines ( not Thaumaturgy, Viccisitude and Necromany for example ), she was his lover as she was the first woman of his father, Adam.
A few Kainites follow her path ( mostly in the Sabbat ), instead of humanity. They are rare though and Lilith has no big impact in the Pen&Paper Vampire.

Well, actauly...
The Path Of Lillith... A replacment for humanity in the case of Vampires who find acting like a human when your clearly a dead, blood drinking monster just TOO MUCH of an oxymoron is considered heresy by the sabbat, because it declares Caine to be a fool and a weakling who needs to be put down like a rabbid dog... Obviously, for people who consider themselves "The Sword Of Caine", saying such things is a little left wing.
As for Lillith herself: (WARNING: This is a FICTIONAL history of a FICTIONAL woman. If your religious, and your religion relates to Lillith in anyway, this isn't meant to be offensive, only part of a game, used to advance it's plot. As for woman, please remember this is a story from a LONG LONG time ago, when women were basicaly objects to own. This doesn't reflect my, or prolly anyone elses view on women, it's just the way the story was made way back when it was written, and how it has been slightly changed by White Wolf to have Lillith latter using her new "friends" to teach Caine.)
Lillith was made when Adam was made. God took the earth and breathed life into a form like his own. However, this made a woman with the will of a man... And she refused to be "Adams woman". God told her again and again that she was to be his, not vis versa, but the willful Lillith would have none of it. In response, God Shunned her and threw her from Eden into the land of Nod.
Lillith wandered, and evetualy stumbled upon a group of demons, equaly cast out by the lord. These demons cheered and laughed at Lilliths story and acepted her, welcoming her wilfulness and her selfawareness. Lillith was overjoyed, and even took a few of the demons as her lovers, creating her own spawn called "The Lillum".
Now, latter in life, Caine killed his brother Able, and was also cast into the lands of Nod. Here he refused to applogise to the lord, seeing what he did as what the lord had asked him to do, so angels were sent to curse him.
"Drink only thy brothers blood, Eat naught but ashes, and never again know the light of the lord" Blah blah blah, angst angst angst. While wandering the forsaken land of Nod, Caine came upon Lillith. She took him in, being the only "human" she had seen for such a long time, and being quite comfortable with monsters by now.
The demons told Lillith how she could teach Caine about ways to make his curse work for him, and so she became his painful tutuor, teaching him the harsh lessons the demons whispered to her. Eventualy, jealouse of Caine and Lillith, the demons whispered a lesson for Lillith to teach that Caine wasn't ready to hear, and he lashed out at her, leaving her and realising himself that he was no longer meant for humans.
Lillith is meant to return and teach Caine his final lesson.. Or maybe Caine will teach Lillith... Thats all a ToJ thing, and one of the possable endings does have the two lovers having their final hissy fit. The books themselves leave it up to players to decide in their own minds if Lillith was a poorly treated womans liberation fighter from 000BC, or just some uppety demon lover who couldn't even acept the will of the lord.. If she was teacher to Caine and the only soul who will ever truly understand him.. Or a misguiding temptress and a blight on Vampire and mortal souls alike.
Similarly to the story of Caine, where you can either say "Well Caine should have admited he was wrong" or "Even -I- can see how Caine could have come to that conclusion, God shouldn't be so harsh" the story is meant to sew confusion in the players as to what is Right in the world, and what is Wrong, and if maybe there is no right and wrong, just a thin grey line which... On one side lays the beast and madness, and on the other lays their lost humanity, and more madness still.
Phew! I'm done!
