console help

please help, I am trying to access the cheat console have typed in the extra on the command line on shortcut but when I press the "~" it does not work. The console appears as soon as start menu appears bu with lots of error messages - please help

By any chance, would you be using a foreign keyboard? If so, then press the key to the left of the 1 key, not the tilde. Sometimes they're moved around on foreign keyboards.

Other than that... I'm stumped. That it comes up when you start is a good sign, its supposed to (with all those error messages to). Get back to us when you try this.
