took two years off

Post by nael »

so, i haven't played in a couple years...reinstalled it a week ago or so. wow, am i rusty. I have gone from soloing through the game with any character to having difficulties with 2 thieves and a barbarian.
it's very upsetting...

one problem i am having that i don't recall having in the past is that I have yet been able to successfully steal from any store owners. my plan was to steal/sell to get everyone armored up and armed to the teeth, but I haven't been able to do it. and i have 200+ in pick pockets.
is it pick pocket that is used wen stealing? i would assume so, and i thought i remembered, but I could be wrong.

Yes, but you have to highlight the person who has the skill before stealing. Also, pickpocketing can wrap around: if you make it too high, it becomes very low.

I've heard that 255-ish is the number. Shoot for 190, it's much safer.

To steal from a shop, you dialog with them as if you were shopping, and then choose the steal menu option (beside the options for rest or buy or identify).

I'd recommend waiting on raising you PP skill until you first talk to the merchant to make sure you can steal from them (you can't steal from everyone). And as your PP skill only lasts a few hours, you may not have time to hunt down another person... I hear rumors of someone in the sewers that you can steal from and who will also then buy back stolen goods... ;)

Cheers,

250 and above, so 200 should be fine, really.

With 175 or higher i have never been caught. Try searching the forum. There was a long thread about this a couple of months ago

Mae'var's shopkeeper also lets you sell back fenced goods. You can just steal his mastery thievery potions then drink them all, then repeatedly buy and sell something expensive until you have enough money. :D

Aye, over inside renals guild hall on the lower level. Down there, there is a thief who will also buy stolen goods, you can steal from her, and she has mastery thievery potions on her that are ripe for the picking. :D

steal easy

This won't get you good stuff or anything, and it definatly won't make u rich, but if your a couple hundred short of something it always works.

With the town crier you can try pick pocketing from them and continue trying untill you get something (unless they have nothing >> ). They have NEVER called out for help or thief or anything, they just move a couple steps each time. :p I steal from them whenever I need a good 20- 120 (depends on which part of town) gold. Also I believe that they usually get their money back each day so you can keep going after them however long you want.

Hope this is helpful to someone.
