What is it about this game???

Post by rebel3_6_1 »

Ok, I love this game. It's a masterpiece. I've beaten it 4 or 5 times and have a number of newer, "better" games. I've been playing World of Warcraft.....wonderful game, but, for some reason, I find myself preparing to go through BG 2 again. I never play a game through more than twice... I just can't let this game go. Am I the only person that feels this way, and if I'm not, what about this game is so captivating?

Nope. You're definetly not alone. I've beaten it at least 50 times. It still doesn't bore me. I've finished the game with all classes and all subclasses at least once. I've tried all sorts of weapon combo's, all sorts of mods and it still doesn't bore me. This is the only game that I keep coming back to. Sometimes I won't play it for a few weeks, sometimes a month but I always go back to the game. It's just to damn good.

Baldur's Gate calls me to play it again every week. Of course, sometimes it keeps on the shelf for one, two months, but usually I play it always, either in a solo, or an evil, neutral, good, party...
It is really addictive and fun. I still like Jan Jansen talking about turnips.
And, of course, for some pain in the ass you may always try the Weimer mods. I was a fan of them until I realized I only play them when I'm bored :D You need to be a powergamer for the Tactics-kind mod.
I dont know how many times I have finished it, but for sure the only classes I havent used so far are some of the new classes at The Darkest Day mod, as the Buchaneer and the Energist. But I'll do them, for sure :)

I just think it's incredible all around....but starting a new game I'm reminded of the worst part about it....the first dungeon....I hate that thing......other than that it's awesome :D .

Nobody likes Irenicus Dungeon... far too boring. But playing improved Ilych makes you think twice before talking about boredom. And you may always remove it with Dungeon be Gone mod.

For me, it's about choices

You want role-playing, behave to the rules.
You want to powergame, try twisting, turning, bending maybe even breaking the rules of the designer (This, I myself enjoy the most).
Be you rightful or evil, find companions or do it all alone, you can have all of this and on top are presented a good story.

Truly a masterpiece!

The only alternative that comes anywhere close to this is NWN with PRC Mod (great character development) but thats another story.

You forgot one other thing that's great about the game: you can play it for as long or as short as you want, come back to it after months and it is still a challenge.

My only gripe is that it sometimes takes forever to get items and spells sorted out, especially when inventories are full.

Me, I like getting Boo to work out the optimum kit distribution so that I can then do the fun bit.
