Thaco Dosn´t work

Post by Monkyboy »

I have a big problem with my monk. Who much I try, I can´t get his THACO to become better. It started around lever 20. Now I am about level 35 (in ToB). His base Thaco i -1, and his Thaco is -9. Do you have this kind of problem? Help me please, I want to kick some ass.

What's the problem?

-9 is a pretty good Thac0!

I don't see a problem either.

I think you misunderstand the question. His probelm is that his thaco doesn't change when he level up. Isn't it supposed to excel at least 1 point at every level up? And in his case it seems to be stable at -9 after a certaion level...

-9 is pretty low for a melee fighting intensive character. If you haven't given him items to improve his THAC0, you should try that first. The manual has tables for THAC0 progression, but if you don't have the manuals you ought to be able to search online for them.

I remember my fighters (like Korgan) having -15 and -16 in the mid 20 levels.

-9 sounds about right for a Monk. They do not increase thac0 every level since they are not fighter-types. I think they increase on the same scale as clerics, but I have never seen an actual table of this progression for BG.

Actually, I don't think that THACO continues to improve for anyone beyond level 20 or 21.

My 2 gold worth...

Fwiw, I believe Qwinn is correct, 2E base THAC0 (which is the basis, more or less for SoA) does not improve after level 20.

Good hunting!

My main char in BG II (kensai) had a thac0 of -21, with a base of -6 and unequiped with -13. Seems to be a cheesed char or bugged or whatever :S. Surely BG II needs some patching to be done, but hey waht can we do, developers dont like us anymore + BG is just too old to cpomplain about bugs. Anyway, i think your char is bugged :) did u use any kind of editor to improve/wathever your character?

Btw: I'M back! :D

Well, the kensai is an exception to the general rule that THACO doesn't improve after level 20. A special perk of the kensai class is that they get a -1 to THACO every 3 levels. I don't think -that- perk has a maximum level, you should be able to continue getting that bonus beyond level 20, an in fact get as much as a -13 THACO bonus if you hit 40th level as a pure kensai. That bonus isn't a part of the THACO tables though.
