Hmmm,I have the sneaking suspicion that the "Use Any Item" ability applies only to class-specific items,such as the Staff Of The Magi,spell scrolls,etc.The ability sounds like it enables the thief to emulate the class required for said item.It also may apply to items that require a specific alignment,e.g. Neb's Nasty Cutter (evil only).

So a thief with this skill probably still wouldn't be able to wear armour above studded leather.

I have a new Favorite tank.

A Dual Class Fighter mAge

Why?

Good AC, and a mage turret.

Think about it... :D

Actually, the German Panther and Tiger tanks in WWII really kicked lots of ally ass', if they didn't run out of fuel, the Red Squard would be destroyed by them. :D :D :D :D

A new decision of mine.

Although this may take FOREVER to do, the guy will tank better than anything else in the game,

A Kensai, leveled up to Lv25 gaining Greater WhirldWind Attack etc and Kai ability

At the 25th level, Dual calls him to A Thief.
This way he can, at maxumum experience level become a Kensai(lv25)/Thief(lv27), and will be able to hide in Shadows, Backstab with Kai ability and Greater Whirld Wind attack on, use the Carsomyr with Grand Mastery(Use Any Item ability) AND Wear armour. CHEEZY.

Throw in the Staff of Magi and re-equip it with every backstab hit to gain the ability to backstab as many times as needed.

SWORD SAINT/ROGUE ALL THE WAY!! :cool: :cool: :cool: :cool: :cool: :cool:

I say the best tank is...Cespenar!!!. After all he survive a god's rage when a hammer was dropped on toe. It must take a lot of magic or might to make those upgraded equipment. :D

TANK implies two things:
1-Dealing out damage
2-Absorbing damage
The best fit to this description is the barbarian:
-Has a % of damage resistance
-1D12 HP rolls
-Rage
-Immune to backstab

He`s a punching bag that laughs at you and punches back.

The best Tank is the Half-Orc Barbarian. He has the most hit points of any character in the game. (not counting tensors on a Ken/mage) He resists damage automatically and gets big saving throw bonuses. He can't deal as much damage as a fighter class with Grand Mastery but he can specialize and therefore do more damage than a straight swashbuckler. He can wear heavy (dragon scales) armor, use shields and so on. He has a natural strength of 19! constitution of 19(20?)! With all these things added up he can take more damage than any other character and deal almost as much damage as any other warrior as well.

Not so sure about the Swashbuckler... They too can specialize, and while they cannot Rage they get a pretty hefty damage bonus. They would need a Strength enhancing item, of course.

Are you sure about them being able to specialize? I thought that they could put 3 stars in Dual Wield but not specialize.

Proficient=1 slot spent on weapon
specialized=2 slot spent on weapon
Master=3 slot spent on weapon
high master=4 slot spent on weapon
grand master=5 slot spent on weapon

So I believe that xyx is right, both the swashbuckler and the barbarian may spend two slots on a weapon and therefore specialize. It is written under restrictions section of the barbarian class that "Cannot specialize past normal specialization."

Ooops, My bad Swashbuckler can specialize! The sad thing is that i actually beat SoA as a swashbuckler.... But still the swashbuckler doesn't get the extra attacks and lower thaco that a Barbarian does!

Best tank is French! It's the new La Cleric! That thing is a sweet tank, top of the line! A nice runner up is the M1A2 Abrahms. Your old WW2 tanks are things of the past, live in the now man!

Kensai this.
Kensai that.
Kensai those.

Has anyone ever played the game w/ a Kensai without dual-classing? Anyone? I thought so. I'm all for people finding their own thing and all, but seriously, has anyone ever used the Kensai kit for anything but a platform to get bonuses and then dual out?
May you walk on warrrrm sannd....

I have, loved it too. Yet a -3 AC (with the best items) doesn't quite cut it. :D

I suppose that wouldn't make it into the "The Best Tank" topic.

Besides, if they were not meant to be dualled, then wy are they so cut out for it?
