Beggers
Beggers
Has anyone actually given all the beggars in bgII money? If so what happens? Or are they just there to make the place look 'rough'?
It has something to do with NPCs i think, as Viconia says you are weak if you give gold to the beggars, and im quite sure aerie or/and Keldorn says something aswell.
No effect on gameplay however (i think), just for the roleplaying thing (as Sabre pointed out)

Well, I remember I gave a GP to one of them, and Nalia told I should give more! Another NPC told her that I couldn't give thgem all I have! But if you don't give a thing and yell at them (did it once, when I was pissed off), NPC will tell you you did a very bad thing. But, hey, I got enough money, why not share a bit?

Well, I am SERIOUSLY considering taking a Chaotic Evil character through from the start of BG1, and killing EVERY single beggar I can find! I'll get all the evil NPC's, and just wipe out every little lowlife beggar on the streets of every town!!! Now THAT sounds like fun!
"Think on this, arrogant mageling: even the mightiest archmage has no spells strong enough to let him cheat death. Some take the road of lichdom... a living death. The rest of us find graves, and our dust is no grander than that of the next man. So when next you lord it over some farmer with your fireballs, remember: we all master spells enough to die"

No offense, but just what did you *think* would happen when you give a beggar a coin? Did you think they'd turn into a phoenix and reward you with an artifact that shoots lightning bolts out your bum?
The beggars are beggars, just as the merchants are merchants, and the waitresses are waitresses. Most of 'em are there to try to create a sense of verisimilitude, of life going on normally while you tend to killing liches, dragons, etc. That's it.

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
Some of the beggars say: "A pearl for you" or something like that if you give them gold... once i actully got a pearl from one of the beggars.. really made up for that 1GP i gave him
