Useless Items
Useless Items
WOW, stuff sure is expensive in this game. I can't afford to buy/trade for much, at least not at this point. How do I know which of these items I might need and which are useless? Am I ever gonna need things like a rope, flares, a crowbar? And what does this Nuka-Cola do...seems to have no affect.
I don't recally having to use the Crowbar, but I can't remember.... - and Nuke Colas aren't neasecary to haul around.
I'm not 100% sure about the robe being neasceary for anything then some minor things, so sell it but be sure to remember where you sell it.
You should be able to find rope around the places where you need it.

Buy the pistol and the leather jacket. Go kill some baddies. Trade their stuff for the leather armour.
Generally you will find plenty of stuff all over the place. That includes armour and weaponry. However, at the start, when money is tight, go for the cheaper stuff. And don't buy incidentals such as rope, etc., as you will find plenty.
You are checking every locker, desk, box, chest, crate, footlocker and so on, right?
Cheers,
TGHO

Are any of the following items necessary to keep?
Deck of "Tragic" Cards
Cats Paw Magazine
Flowers
Shovel
Also, on a side note, there is one small building in Klamath (just to the right of the Golden Gecko). This building has two rooms in it, one of which is behind a locked door that I can not get open. I have tried many times to smash the door with the sledge hammer, pick the lock, and use the key I got from the dog...but I can't get in. How do I get it open?

Deck of "Tragic" Cards - you can play at a certain spot in Gecko.
Cats Paw - Get 10 for a quest reward.
Flowers - nope
Shovel - you will need to dig in two quests. But keep it somewhere, like the car boot.

Build up your Lockpick skill and eventually you will be able to open it. Uh, note the two guys standing around in that building... Don't try to open the door whilst they are present!

My lockpick skill is one of my tagged skills and its at 49%. Ive never had problems picking other locks, but this one I've tried at least 30 times. I've also never seen ANY guys in that building, are you sure we are talking about the same building? Its a small building with some corn-stalks and a stop sign in front of it, immediatly east of the Golden Gecko.

At 49% you won't be able to open a lot of doors. Some require Lockpicks to be 120% or so.
Just to the right of the Golden Gecko... Refresh my memory - that's the pub towards the top left of the section, with the barman who you can talk into giving you better prices if you discuss The Den, right? If so, then the building to the immediate right should be the Dunton's house. At least I think that is correct!

If it's important to a quest it will sell for exactly 0 gold and it will most probably remain in the vendor's sell inventory until you finish the game.
Also I might add there are numerous and funny items you will find throughout Fallout. Just keep playing and you'll find out if there's a use for most of the items.
