My roomate is selling his Game Boy Advance SP for $50 CAN, and I'm thinking of buying it. I've never owned a handheld system before, but I'm attracted to the classic game library of the GBA sp. I'd just like to hear some experiences of GBA owners before I make decision.

I got myself one second-hand a few months ago - for a lot more than you'll pay - and I really like it. admittedly, a lot of it's down to games, but it has decent battery life, isn't too clunky, the fold-up design protects the screen without a case, and the light is good.

games-wise, I have reccomendations.

advance wars 2 - turn-based strategy. big game, lots of options, a level editor - and a good one at that - and challenging gameplay. really sets a standard for the quality of handheld games.

legend of zelda: the minish cap - short and a bit simple, but impeccably executed variation on the last SNES incarnation. not a bad game, but if you want lifespan, buy cheap.

final fantasy tactics advance - simplified reworking of tactics with little plot and a new character development system, it is disconsertingly massive and will stand a lot of playing indeed.

basically, I'd say go for it, but try to find some good sources for information about games, as they can be a little patchy.
Here where the flattering and mendacious swarm
Of lying epitaths their secrets keep,
At last incapable of further harm
The lewd forefathers of the village sleep.
