Problem: Can someone how to put back extracted files into the VPK?

Can someone tell me how to put back extracted files into the VPK?

Sorry, this has been asked before, but nobody seemed to answer it, so I made a thread about it...I never modded anything before so I am a bit dumb with this.

My problem is:

I had problems with my Malkavian girl's armor/cloth, so I decided to use another character like Jeanette for her. I extracted the files with the VPK Tool, and made everything that has been posted before in other threads about MODs.

So I have a folder called models now with all the files in it.
But how and when do these files go into effect. Do I have to compress them again ? And if, how can I do this ?
When I resume the game nothing happened...

There's no need to put 'em back, as long as u've put them in the correct directory inside the models folder the game will use these(you can put them back in however, by adding a shortcut command like the -console which I can't remember atm, but it is not very useful and takes ALOT of memory to use).
If you've done everything like u said, everything should be working just fine..

Do I have to unpack all models ? or just the one I am changing ?

I unpacked just the one I am changing....

I thought I might have to compress the models folder back after I unpacked it with the VPK tool...
I have to try it with another character, maybe there is more to this bug in the malkavian girl ( no armor )....I try it with another one first....


EDIT:

I didn't know that I have to unpack the whole VPK file....

I tried a reskin of the Malkavian girl, to get the armor back, but nothing happens. Has anyone else that bug...?

Btw...why do the PCs have an MDL file only, while the NPCs have VTX too ?

Last Question: Do I have to unpack all VPK files or only the one where I found the skins..? And do I have to delete the old VPK file afterwards ?

Every character model needs the following 4 files:
something.dx7_2bone.vtx
something.dx80.vtx
something.mdl
something.phy

ex

jeanette.dx7_2bone.vtx
jeanette.dx80.vtx
jeanette.mdl
jeanette.phy

So u need to find these inside the packs. The easiest way is to extract all files from all the packs of course, but u could always search em up.

Yeah, u only need the model files for the char u want ur PC to look like.

I guess you are German player since you are confronted with the Malkavian-armor-bug?!
Exchanging the modell you play with wont help with that, in the German version of the game (maybe other localized versions too, dont know) the interface simply doesnt allow you to change armor, you also cant buy any from the in-game-vendors.
There are 2 solutions:
a.) reinstall the game in English (you can choose that in the setup-dialog), your English seems good enough to play that way
The old savegames will still work (make sure to make a backup of them before reinstalling).
b.) use the console with the commands "give" and then "use", you have to find out the correct item-name for the armor, but there should be plenty of command-lists on the net for the console (never tried that, but heard it works)

Btw, the easiest way to change the appearance of your character is by editing the appropriate lines in the clandoc000.txt-file, which can be found in the vdata/system-folder (but again, you have to unpack the vpks to be able to do that).

Thanks again...I thought this might be a specific language bug...I allready found out that when I give me the armors with the console they won't show up in the inventory, but are playable with using F3 for shifting armors in the field.

I will try the trick with installing the english version only...Thanks!


EDIT: It works now....I installed the game in the english language version and now the malkavian girl armor is showing....very stupid bug.
