Monk vs Kensai/Mage vs Sorcerer
Monk vs Kensai/Mage vs Sorcerer
Someone challenged me to a multiplayer game of 3 persons -- free fight! Meaning each player can attack anyone, there will be no team mates. Since they said Monk's suck i opted to use one. The remaing 2 players will be Kensai/Mage and Sorcerer.
Things to note:
1. We will be maxed out with 8 million xp
2. We can bring any item into the game but no copies for each player. But it is possible for each players to have one ring of gaax, but each players can't use two rings of gaax.
3. No shadow keeper to do illegal modifications like put 200 hit points for a sorcerer.
The game is in 2 days and i do not know how to defend myself. Help!

The lord of murder shall perish but in his death he shall spawn a score of mortal progency
Chaos shall be sown in their footsteps

I was actually planning to greater whirlwind the kensai/mage with a quivering palm or stunning blow. wonder whether that will work since the kensai/mage does not have greater whirlwind at all

Nah, the Kensai/Mage will wipe the floor with you. Try Contingency protection from magical weapons, along with chain-contingenies including simiralacrum *twice* along with protection from magical energy. Don't forget time stop and aclarity, and the almighty tensors. The Kensai/Mage can get most of that off in the first round and STILL attack you with a staff of the ram +6 (save or go unconcious).
Monks aren't bad, don't get me wrong, but the Kensai mage is simply stronger even with quivering palm and whirlwind attacks. I would bet you don't even get them off before you die.

The one thing that stood out in the "Idiots versus brainers" thread was the use of Potions of Invisibility to avoid and wait out nasty stuff. You'll need the Cloak of Non-Detection along with it, or they'll True Sight you out anyway.
The Cloak of Mirroring will definitely give the Sorcerer a headache, and the Ring of Spell Turning is probably the only protection against the almighty Imprisonment (which shouldn't be available without ToB) that you can get.
Your opponents also won't be able to use many spells because they only work on "real" enemies (such as Horrid Wilting or Power Word Blind).
Question about multiplayer: do the "locator" arrows still appear on the sides of the screen to point out where off-screen characters are? That would make invisibility a lot less useful.
And, ehh, please keep me posted on the results.

Non-Detection won't do you any good because you are all (as far as the CPU is concerned) 'on the same side'. Because of this, you can be meleed even with invisibility and non-detection...and Imprisonment will work just fine (if he hits you...likely).
Yeah, the failure of non-detection to work is cheese....but so it the failure of horrid wilting so fair is fair.
I stand by my prior statement.

max out your magic resitance (of course)
the use scroll of prot magic on the others (no more magic after that) use any items which speed you up (that you can use ) the faster you are the better - and of course high armour class.
i would aslo be interested as to the results

They say to truly understand reality one must learn to think in Seven Dimensions
Understand there is no chaos - Only a pattern to large for your mind to grasp

Uhm... I'm pretty sure that I cannot get one of my characters to melee (or otherwise target) an invisible party member.Originally posted by polaris:

Also, Imprisonment doesn't require a hit roll, it simply has range 0.

As a monk, you can easily get over 100% magic resistance. With a cloak of mirroring, the only spell that can touch you is dispel magic and imprisonment. Funny, that... completely invulnerable to spells, but one imprisonment and you're instantly dead, no save... *slight spoiler* as a level 38 monk, I solo'd the entire Hive Mother party in Watcher's Keep without using any 'special' tactics at all.. just 10 potions of superior healing. The only one that gave me any trouble was Y'tossi and his summoned skeletons surrounding me. I just ran around (movement rate is great and can't be dispelled) and hit him whenever I could to deplete his stoneskins. The Hive Mother couldn't touch me.
Of course, players would lower your magic resistance to 0 with a quick spell sequencer..

Yup, and on closer inspection, not even the Ring of Spell Turning will bounce it, since Minor Spell Turning only bounces spells of level 7 or less... Perhaps (very) quickly drinking a Potion of Invisibility could save you.Originally posted by Scott:

I'm not sure if there even is a Scroll of Imprisonment in SoA... Is the Sorcerer level 18+? Perhaps you're in luck (in that regard).

Hehehehe
You are all reeeeeeally evil
Basically, you are all telling the poor guy that he is already dead...
Not that i think that JoeBl@ck has a large chance of getting out of this fight alive, but maybe the spellcasters can take out each other, but even then, even severely injured, they'll probably kill the poor monk
All i can suggest is a lot of oils of fiery burning or other area damaging spells to disrupt spellcasting, since he won't be able to directly touch the misleaded, protected from god weapons, simulacred, projected imaged, spell imunited, shapechanged to mind flayer during a time-stop spell casters...
Good luck... but I think you should call in sick

Being an Evil Overlord seems to be a good career choice. It pays well, there are all sorts of perks and you can set your own hours. However every Evil Overlord I've read about in books or seen in movies invariably gets overthrown and destroyed in the end. I've noticed that no matter whether they are barbarian lords, deranged wizards, mad scientists or alien invaders, they always seem to make the same basic mistakes every single time. Therefore, if I ever happen to become an Evil Overlord, ...

I'd suggest you do whatever you can think of to get them to fight each other first. Hide, get out of sight, whatever it takes for them to turn their attention torwards each other for a bit (them being around each other, while you're not there should be enough.)
Now this is the law of the jungle - as old and as true as the sky; And the wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die. As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk the law runneth forward and back - For the strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack"

Will 100+% MR give immunity from Imprisonment?
In a word, NO. You need either protection from Magic (the scroll) or spell immunity.
In fact uber-magic resistance against other PLAYERS using magic using types is not very useful...especially if they know what you are playing. Simply spell sequence Lower Resistance, and you are toast. For that matter at 8million XP, you are looking at casting levels of about 30. That means that lower resistance will cut your MR by 60 PER SPELL....and they will have a LOT of 5th level spells (not to mention staves of striking).
In short, I wouldn't count on your MR lasting more than a round (if that).
