Starwars expanded universe
what is the best expanded universe comic? I personaly like the trials of vos and his apprentic but I havn't read that many......what should I read and why?
Well this is a tough question. The answer would be: That depends on your interest - are you interested in Jedi's or not; which era interest you; do you wish to find adventures of specific character etc.
The SW Comics are curently divided in 4 sections and each cover different era of SW history.
1. Old Republic Era
- you should read all of them because they are actualy one continuig story spread over 7 diferent comics
2. Rise of the Empire Era
- since you already mentioned Quinlan Vos Republic series (i belive there is about 60+ comics by now) is what you need
- I would also recomend Jedi Council - Acts of War comic - only place you get to see Members of Jedi Council in action (at least until Episode III)
- If you are not that interested in Jedi's several Bounty hunters (Aura Sing, Jango Fett, Zam Wessel) had a comics with them as stars
- Empire series - theirs version of the Republic series
3. Rebelion Era
- you should try and find complete (35 issue) series of X-Wing Rogue Squadron because it has great story and focuses on many pilots that you only partialy see in New Hope, ESB & Return of Jedi. (I don't know why this comic is set in this era - it should be in the next one but...)
- Other than that most comics from this era are actualy based on movies or published novels (Shadow of the Empire & Splinter of the Mind's Eye)
- you may also try to find Vader's Quest that cover Vader's serch for Luke and Shadow of the Empire - Evolution which continues the story of my favorite character from SotE - Guri
4. New Republic Era
- Trawn trilogy is prety much required (books are great) followed by Union that finshes Luke/Mara story
- Dark Empire I & II see Luke fall to the Dark Side
- You should also try to find Chewbbacca to find out some of his exploits - nice touch considering current storyline Chewbbacca dies in Vector Prime novel that start New Jedi Order series
- several comics covering adventures of Bobba Fett
There is also some comics that don't realy fall in precise era - like Infinities (another great comics) that cover some alternative conclusion to known storyline (i mean the movies).
As for my personal favorite - hard to tell possibly Trawn's trilogy because it is the first SW comics I read (even before the books), but I also greatly enjoyed reading X-Wing and Republic series.
This maybe more than you wanted but I hope that it was helpfull.

WOW!! this helps a lot!! I have read most of the new republic books and I have gained an intrest in the solo twins, I didn't know there where so many out though! I liked some of the vader stuff but does anyone know if they are going to make any old republic comics based off of KOTOR? or the second one?
