NPC's voices: Who portray them? *BG1 npcs included*

Post by Galuf the Dwarf »

I was curious as to who did these characters. Some BG1 characters are listed because of cameo appearances.

BG1 -
Xzar: I can bet it's Frank Welker. If you listen to it just right if/when Xzar is killed, it sounds like Megatron from the original Transformers series. Could be reversed with below. I noticed that I can make my voice sound a bit like Xzar, surprisingly.

Montaron: This i believe to be Gregg Berger (sp?). At times, it tends to sound like Grimlock. Could be reversed with above.

BG2:

Minsc: Sounds SO familiar to cartoons I remember from years ago.
Almost sounds like Berger as well. (Almost acts like Grimlock, too)

Anomen: This guy definitely sounds like the actor who portrayed King Arthur in the movie "Excalibur".

Korgan: Sounds familiar, but can't put my finger on it.

Jan Jansen: VERY FAMILIAR. Almost sounds a bit like Peter Falk at times. I can definitely bet that it's not ol' Lt. Colombo, though.

Aerie: Sounds familiar as well. Don't know, though.

Those are about the most familiar voices I can think of. Of course, I know who ol' Irenicus is portrayed by. ;)

Anyways, I will welcome any good input.

Correct.
Montaron: This i believe to be Gregg Berger (sp?).
IMDB has it as Earl Boen but the online cast lists for BG1 are notoriously inaccurate. Berger was on BG1, so you may be right.
Minsc: Sounds SO familiar to cartoons I remember from years ago.
Jim Cummings, who is in damn near everything.
Anomen: This guy definitely sounds like the actor who portrayed King Arthur in the movie "Excalibur".
No, it's Rob Paulsen.
Korgan: Sounds familiar, but can't put my finger on it.
Bill Martin.
Jan Jansen:
Jack Roth
Aerie: Sounds familiar as well. Don't know, though.
Kath Soucie, who is also in basically everything.

Here's my list. It's not complete, but it has most of the important characters.

EDIT: I took jcompton's advice and updated my list using Chris Borders's list as a reference. I alphabetized it and made several corrections to the spelling and so forth. (I don't know which characters some of the names on the "definitive list" refer to, so I either left them out or put a question mark next to them. I did manage to figure out that "Kayl at HQ" refers to Sir Ryan Trawl.) I also added the voice actors from Planescape: Torment because I felt like it. :)

Michael T. Weiss: Nameless One (PS:T)

You'll notice that many of the voice actors portrayed many different characters. For example, the guy who did Gorion's voice also did Minsc's voice, and the gal who did Nalia's voice also did Viconia's voice. (Can you believe it?) Maurice LaMarche also portrayed a variety of characters.

Here are a couple of links that can help you look up voice actors on the internet (just use a search engine to find others):

http://voices.fuzzy.com/default.asp
http://www.voicechasers.org/VideoGames/ ... sgate.html

You can also look at Forgotten Realms: Baldur's Gate II - Shadows of Amn (2000) (VG) , but as jcompton have pointed out, it contains incorrect data. For example, the cast listing for Throne of Bhaal is a joke.

What the?!

Hey, if Welker did Duke Eltan and the Sahuagin king, then that means.... HE WAS MIRAGE IN THE TRANSFORMERS AS WELL? AND HE WAS ELMINSTER AS WELL!!! *has considered voice acting as a future career, IRL*

I hope you people don't mind me bringing that up. I've been a fan of that series since i was 2 years old. I'll never forget hearing Eltan in BG1, and thinking "Hey, that sounds alot like Mirage". It didn't occur to me that such a character was in Welker's voice range.

Michael Bell I remember as being part of the TF voice cast. Which character was he in the series? *thinks, his best recollections pointing to Astrotrain or Grapple*

If anyone here is familiar with the cartoon series I'm referring to and can help, please respond.

No, Von, some of this BG1 stuff is wrong. The data floating around the net is flat out inaccurate.

Jennifer Darling was never Jaheira. She was originally cast as Jaheira and replaced by Hidi Shannon in BG1 at the last minute.

Melissa Disney was never Viconia, it was Grey DeLisle in both games.

There are likely other problems here as well. Trust the Chris Borders list I posted before this.

Oh, and one of the other roles that Welker DEFINITELY sounds like for what I know him in BG2 - Lord Cor Derlyn (Anomen's father). Sounds SO much like Megatron, I could just imagine him saying something like this:

Lord Cor Derlyn: I want you out of my house.

Anomen: Very well, drunkard. Your greed has truly overtaken you.

Lord Cor Derlyn: Such heroic nonesense! *pulls out a fusion-powered crossbow and shoots him in the head

Lord Cor Derlyn - Critical hit averted by helmet

Anomen has taken 125 damage from Lord Cor Derlyn

Anomen - Death

Don't mind that, just a rampant Transformers fan ranting his head off. :D

If anyone has any more corrections to make to the BG1 list I posted, I'd be happy to correct it. (Unfortunately, Chris Borders's list does not cover BG1, with the exception of characters such as Grand Duke Belt, who does not appear in BG2. But I'm glad I could give credit to James Horan.)

I have a couple pf questions. First of all, can anyone verify whether Jim Meskimen did the voice of Khalid (as well as Edwin) in BG1 and Throne of Bhaal? Also, the Drow merchant in IWD2 sounds a lot like Edwin, which is why I put that on my list, but I wanted to see if anyone could verify that. Also, can anyone tell me who does the voice of Firkraag? (The big guy himself, not Lord Jierden.) Was it Kevin Michael Richardson?

So, jcompton, is the info on IMDB false or true?

It's mostly accurate, there's just the occasional bit of weirdness (Imoen wasn't listed for the longest time, and the Jaheira problem.)

Why does it matter? He's like you and me. He has a profession, and he does it. Those who land choice acting jobs and perform well are no different from good dentists, quality writers, and effective violinists. To the extent that someone in a given profession really, really works hard for years perfecting that ability, they deserve praise; but we don't know that this is the case for the actor in question.

Oddly enough, cultural worship of actors has existed since Ancient Rome. Juvenalis wrote a very funny and foul-mouthed essay mocking the way politicians of his time had to be seen with popular actors, and in some cases, formed relationships. Things don't change that much. For myself, I'd just as soon hear a completely unknown voice actor like the one who does Keto, as some popular figure from tv or film. You lose nothing, and there are literally tens of thousands of unemployed actors every bit as good as those who get the jobs.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
