Stupid Question...Can you skip quests?

Post by Moon Maiden »

I've used the search forum mode, and didn't find an answer to this question, so I figured I'd ask. Okay, okay, so I cheat a little using the console...It's just that I found the Nosferatu Warrens so tedious last time through, and I was wondering if there was any way I could maybe skip from one warren to the next...okay, the other reason (aside from the tediousness) is that those head runners scare the hell outta me. I can seriously hear my heart POUNDING in my ears whenever I play in a scene with those horrible things. And the fat, bloated, green slime spewing men aren't my cup of tea either. The other reason is that I've (i'm sure you've heard me say this before if you've read any of my other posts or replies) played this game through (not to completion mind you) four times now. I just really want to get to at least the part I was at in the last game (before i downloaded the patch), and getting there is just getting on my nerves. And those darned head runners...Anyhoo, if there is some console code, PLEASE tell me, and explain how to use it...thank you!!

Hmmm....never tried it, save to get a way around the Society of Leopold bug, so I think it should work here too....

what?

I haven't gotten that far in the game, although I have heard of the crash...could you possibly elaborate on what to do, how to do it, and what will happen...pretty please?

Moony, you'd want to read the "Crash at the society of leopold" post, that'll tell you all about it, how to get around it and so on. However, if your running the patch, I don't think you get that crash, so, er, yeah!
As for skipping levles, couldn't you just load the last level of the warrens using the console? I don't think theres anything important in the levels before that... Other then the awesomeness that is having bodies hucked at you by monsters!
I was Diablorised once. I got better.

Moon Maiden,

I'm guessing that some of the quests are optional and some them aren't. I've personally failed three quests so far, and I'm confident that none of them were of any serious consequence to the story. For example, it turns out that a certain restaurant critic will still give a good review to a certain place in Hollywood, even if his "waiter" punches him and then runs away without even taking his order.

Other quests seem to be central to the plot, forming bottlenecks in your play of the game. Unfortunately, it seems that clearing the Nosferatu warrens is one of those quests, and I'm still stuck there, practicing my jumping and swimming skills over and over and over and over again. Not fun.

Despite failing a few side quests, I've been a real XP hog this game. If anybody asks me to do anything, I've been all over it, because I assume that I need pretty high stats to get to the end. If I had skipped a few side quests here and there, my character wouldn't be nearly as tough as he is right now.

Yeah but...

Well see, that's the whole thing. I've read the Crash at the society of Leopold, and I didn't find anyone who ACTUALLY told you how to do it. I can't even remember (aside from the noclip which helps you walk through walls) seeing a main console command to use, and if used, what it'll do, or what reprocussions it may cause on my game/and or character. If I missed it, I'd be more then happy for someone to point it out with a linky link or something. Thanks again for help!

The Important part is this:
1. Create a shortcut to vampire.exe
(Or just right click on the shortcut on your desktop/start menu)

2. In the menu select "Properties" (should be the entry at the bottom)

3. Now a new Menu will appear. Look for something called "Target". There you
should see a path to the vampire.exe file.

4.Write " -console " behind this path, but without the ""
Edit: There appear to be two possibilities to do this. Either:
C:\Vampire\vampire.exe -console or
"C:\Vampire\vampire.exe" -console
You have to enter your own path instead of C:\Vampire of course.
Thanks to Quark for that info.

5.Now start Vampire using this shortcut

6.Load the safegame

7. Go near the boat, but not so far that the loading screen appears.

8.Hit "Esc"

9.Press "^" (The key right of the 1 on the keyboard)

10.A console will open. Type:
SaveJohansen() (press enter)
changelevel2 la_hub_1 taxi_landmark (press enter)
( Or as Nosferatu: changelevel2 la_hub_1 sewer_map_landmark )
Take care to get the capital letters right. If you get an "not defined" error
you probably messed up with the spelling.
So....just say you killed the Tzimisce in his house....you enter the warrens....
and next you do the same things as above for enabling the console. You gotta find the name of the last level of the nosferatu warrens and the landmark and that should be enough....

I suck at swimming in Bloodlines and also running away from bombs so I used the noclip cheat. Type in "noclip 0" and you not just walk through walls, you zoom through the whole level. It's tricky to orient yourself and go where you want to, though. I can't explain it well. I thought I'd just be able to go through walls, but you go through the floor and ceiling and it's rather easy to get lost.

And I eventually realized it was easier to just do it the proper way. That was my lesson.

As for not liking the areas, turn on god mode. The hotel creeps me out and I didn't want to linger and in god mode, nothing phased me so I could run through things that would have hurt me and got out quicker. I also used Auspex the whole time so I could see. As for the head monster things, Auspex let me see them before they jumped out at me and the Colt Anaconda made quick work of them. I could kill them before they got to me.

With some trial and error you may be able to noclip through parts of the Warrens. The last part is just a maze with nothing that jumps at you, though. There may be voices, but that may be a Malk thing.

"last part" refered above being the actual nosferatu "apartments" area. here, you still need to watch your step over the red "water."
(and be sure to pick up the little glob thing in the storage room)

not sure about noclip

This noclip sounds like it could be interesting, but technically, if I were to use it, I would just go down and down, seeing as the warrens are all underground, right? So would I just drop down through the levels of the Warrens? Hmm...might just see how that works, when I get there...still have to run those head runner quests for Isaac (is that his name? the anarch dude in Hollywood?) Any more tips though...you know the deal...thanks you guys!

Try noclip out but do it from a point where you can reload if you get all messed up. It's bizarre and the levels aren't laid out the way you'd think they would be.

As for the headhunters, I really recommend getting and using Auspex. That way you see them way ahead of time. And with a gun you can shoot them before they start slobbering on you. I think Dominate works on them, so I'm sure other Disciplines would, too. But with Auspex you can deal with them before they jump out.

You do need to do the quests with them for Isaac, though. Unless someone knows the console command to mark them as done. I wonder if using the console to get the tapes would work? Heck, you may be able to noclip through the stages to get the tapes if you know where they are.
