Critical Hit Exclamations, and Incantations

Post by EMINEM »

For the sake of trivia (and because I have nothing better to do with my life at the moment), who remembers what the NPCs exclaim whenever they land a critical hit on an enemy? Also, when a mage is casting a spell, what the heck is he saying? Here are some answers:

Keldorn: Torm take you!

Imoen: Gotcha good!

Aerie: Oh my!

Minsc: Ha! Ha! (I believe Boo squeals in the background when he says this)

Korgan: Stonebreaker! (Though with his strong Scottish accent, it sounds more like STON-BRAY-KAH!!

Nalia: Yes! (in an almost sexual way!)

Yoshimo: Hiya!

... and I forget the rest.

And when a spellcaster casts a spell, doesn't his incantations sounds like -

"GRAY SI ALIA FERRO!" ? in a long drawn-out English accent? Certianly does to me, though I might be the only one who cares.

Don't go forgetting any mages "Polka Imperium"! :D

Edwin also yells "Ha! Fear Me" with his critical hit.
Cartoon Law III
Any body passing through solid matter will leave a perforation conforming to its perimeter. Also called the silhouette of passage, this phenomenon is the speciality of victims of directed-pressure explosions and of reckless cowards who are so eager to escape that they exit directly through the wall of a house, leaving a cookie-cutout-perfect hole. The threat of skunks or matrimony often catalyzes this reaction.

EMINEM - Listening as closely as I can during non-pitched battle, the incantations sound mostly like Latin. I've especially picked up on the "Ferrum" (Iron) word in the Armor spell. I'm playing an abjurer right now and a 4 point AC improvement that lasts 9 hours is just too sweet to pass up. :) I'll try to see if I can pickup other terms in certain spells, but its been a decade plus since I've had Latin so I'm not guaranteeing anything. :p Latin would make sense because it sounds impressive, is the a basis for many other languages so it will sound, at least familiar, and you can create some instant phrases without having to invent your own language.
As to the crits, I've just started playing about 2 weeks ago so I'm not a good one to add to the list. I haven't heard my PCs yet, unfortunately.

Here are some of the less spectacular frazes

PC(Monk?): Mine is the Fist of Fury !!!

Anomen: Take that!

Mazzy: Aha!

Valygar: Good hit!

About the spells, every school of magic has a different light (that thing that shows up in front of the caster) and respectively the same phrase. I'm pretty sure evocation is "entaros tulkan impiria", I can't remember the other ones right now :p .

There are different phrases for wizards but not a sperate one for every spell, which would be nice I think. Doesn't a spell have it's own unique wording? Also it would be nice if you were able to predict an enemy spell by lisening carefully to what the enemy spellcaster is saying.

I think the spells are supposed to sound latin but I can not make out any real latin phrases. One thing that strikes me is that one of the female voice actors does a terrible job of phrasing the spells, one voice has a heavy american english acent which doesn't mix well with latin.

What does "Ultrinnan" mean? Anyone speak Drow?

I also thought she was saying "ultra-man!" and referring to me.

You know something? All these mysterious incantations could be subliminal messages designed by Bioware and company to get us ever more addicted to their games.
"Ultranin" might mean "Ignore the time"
"Polka Imperium" might mean "Play it again, sam" and "Gracie Alia Ferro" might mean "Great must be your hero." I mean, how many spells do you cast each gaming session? About fifty? Now how many times in the past month alone have you heard "Ultranin" "Polka Imperium" and "Gracie Alia Ferro?" How many times since you bought the game? It came out in November, so that means... 6400 times!
Without even trying, you can remember what these incantations sound like in your head. It's practically burned into our memories, and implemented in our daily lives!
