Why there's no water (or ice) elementals in BGs?

Yeah, I was wondering that myself. When I was doing in the Underdark and doing the quest with the mage you had to rescue from imprisonment, I was all freaked out expecting to walk by a water elemental portal and get splattered.

I believe the reasoning behind the lack of water elementals was the lack of any way to draw/animate water elementals in the infinity engine.

Nah, very unlikely, I mean, there were Water Elementals in Icewind Dale, and they're just a "repaint" of Earth and Fire Elementals, so that's not the reason. They were either completely overlooked, or they decided not to use the Water Elementals at all for no real reasons except that they thought Air, Fire and Earth was enough to keep the plebs happy

Spoiler:
There *are* water elementals in one location of ThroB. And they aren't just repaints of the other elementals, they are pretty unique.

Too bad the Abi-Dazims (whatever) Horrid Wilting has a -2 penalty to saving throws on water elementals but they can not be found in SoA.

Ah, interesting to hear that. Haven't played much Throne of Bhaal yet, but they
were repaints of other elementals in Icewind Dale.
