Late Game Lag Issues

Post by tazman67 »

I need a little help here...

I have been playing the game, 1.2 patched and all, and it has been working wonderfully. However, I just reached the Warrens and it has started to lag something awful. If I save my game, leave, restart my PC and restart the game, it is better...for a time. Then the lag starts up again. My system is more than robust enough to support this game with all of its bells and whistles. Also, the lag is now happening everywhere, not just in the Warrens. Has anyone else encountered this and is there a fix?
Thanks!!

I may have a suggestion.

You should check your cpu output and see what it is on. By pressing crt, alt, delete, when in windows, you can check that. Most likely, a CPU running at 100% will not run a game as well as one with 0%. Also, check to see how many programs are running. If more than like 25 are actively running, meaning that a percentage of the CPU is being taken up to run something, then that may be slowing things down. If any of this seems to be a problem, write back and I may be able to help you.

Some of the suggestions that have been posted include defrag, large virtual memory file - 1400 mb if you have the space, make sure all background processes are turned off etc. You didn't say how buff your system is but the biggest issue with this game appears to be the memory with 512mb giving laggy performance and 1gig giving much better performance. I get good performance with 3.2mb pentium, 9800pro card, 512mb and two hard drives(virtual memory file system set up on second drive) , but loong load times and stutter when panning especially in downtown are annoying. Good Luck

Thanks for your suggestions. Unfortunately, I checked the CPU time and it was at 75% (still a little high). I also do not have any other programs running, in fact, I restarted the system several times to refresh it. As for the "buffness" of my system - 3.2 CPU, 1Gb mem, 9600 Video Card with 256Mb. I will look into expanding my Virtual mem, but I think that would have effected game play overall. As I mentioned, the game was running beautifully through the Santa Monica, Downtown, and Hollywood quests. It was when I got into the fifth level of the Warrens that the lag started and now it will not stop...even when I go to areas that were fine before. (Santa Monica, Downtown, and Hollywood) I will defrag and run some clean up programs just in case.

Did the problem start when you encountered the acid pools and lake?
And more importantly did it persist after leaving the warrens?
If it did not persist it seems that your graphics card has issues trying to mirror the smoke above the goo.
Also if that happened you might run into problems with the endboss weapon.

Who Cares,
The problem did seem to start at the pools, but it continues to persist no matter where I go. I just started a new game tonight and everything was fine, but after about 5 minutes, the lag sets in and get progressively worse and all I was doing was running around downtown.

same here

different location for me though,

massive lag kicked in as soon as i got onboard the 'Elizabeth Dane' it became so bad it simply wasn't playable.
I dont know if its connected but the blood on the deck and walls kept flashing inconsistantly.
Problem stopped when i did a quickload. weird..
anyone else got the same kind of thing?

I think I found a memory leak or just some weird bug that over flows the memory. This overflow makes the game lag really badly - I mean I was running the game fine, averaging 30-40 fps, which isn't bad, imo. I haven't found anything regarding this bug in any other forums or support sites so I decided I'd be the first.

I guess you guys want systems specs so:
P4 2.8C - running at 3.0Ghz
Asus P4P800
9800 Pro 128mb
1Gb of OCZ 3500 Premier with timings 2-3-3-7
1 Gb page file (I had it higher but didn't seem to make much difference... just took longer for the lag to kick in)
Windows XP, SP2
Ran the game @ 1024 and @ 1260 (No major difference in fps)

Okay that junk is out of the way now, onto the bug

It happened when I was in Warrens 5 - The Nostradamus lair, talking to Imalia about her quest. I got the quest and she gave me the 4 items or whatever. The passkey got put into my inventory, but the other stuff was left on the ground due to the Inventory being full.

Right around here I noticed it start to lag.

Since i need the items for the quest, I dropped some of the old quest items that weren't needed (notebooks, diaries, cards.) I picked up Imalia's items and went on my merry way to see Gary. This part, my fps was about 15, and I didn't think anything of it because my fps jumps around quite a bit (10 - 100 fps at some points).

The next time I started playing the game, it ran fine for about 15 minutes (Problem seems to be more noticeable if you change areas often.) After that it went to hell in a handbasket. It was the weirdest thing, and I tried almost everything to fix it. The reason why I think its a memory overflow bug...thing.. is that when I opened the consoled, I'd be flooded (1-2 fps at this point) with this message:
DataTable Overflow: [Can't remember the position]

The only thing that ended up working was reverting back to a previous save, from a different area. Has anyone else seen this problem? Its really bugging the hell out of me, since I seem to be the only experiencing it (Or I fail at Google and using Forum Searches.)
