Fame & Fortune

MINOR SPOILER

So I know a player's reputation doesn't affect gameplay, but I assume most people are like me & consider the fame-rating as a marker for success. (It's all about being rich & famous in the gaming world as well as the real one! :) )
Anyway, my question in this. What exactly boosts your fame, and what actions boost it the most? I seem to recall that killing Trebonius gives +3 rep, but I don't know if that is for killing him in the arena, or for becoming mage's guild grand master. I seem to remember that becoming the head of a faction does -not- boost your fame. Any thoguhts?
I also believe that killing people is a fast way to notoriety, again, much like the real world. I think I got my highest reputation when I was in the Morag Tong, and that it would go up by a point or two every time I completed a mission. Is this true?
If people have any tips & hints on how to get famous, please share!

PS: Is there any way of setting up random fights in the arena? I know most other games that have something like an arena have features where you can challenge different lvl monsters and fighters, win gold or prizes, and gain experience. No go in Morrowind i take it..?

My tip for high reputation would be this ''do quests''...

But as for arena fights.. there is something like 10 mods wich will allow you to do that. Just go to Morrowind Summit. Good search word would be ''Arena''.

I might have been a bit vague earlier...
What I meant was, is it the quests that give you a higher rep, or is it advancing in guilds? Will slaughtering a town increase your rep? I just remember gaining about 10-20 reputation points while doing the Morag Tong quests, while only gaining 1-3 points doing the mage's guild missions...
Teaching Pemenie a lesson gives you 1 rep point, as well as taking care of Larrius Varro's (sp?) bloodbath...
Any other short cuts that people know of? Helping Maurrie find her true love -should- boost your rep for one, as well as solving the taxman's murder in Seyda Neen.
It just seems like sometimes I'll play for three hours, do tons of quests, only to realize that my fame hasn't even been raised by a single point. What gives?

Quests... And with quests i mean that if you are told to do something and after doing that you might get +x on your reputation...

Enjoyment

My thoughts on the Reputation...It would be nice to raise it, if that is your only goal playing the game! But ask yourself, you play for the enjoyment, the escape of being in another world...you have been here for a while, become an "exhalted member". Remember what brought you here in the first place... the gaming experience, escape....enjoy, the Reputation level will take care of itself...the Game, the playing of it, is what you should fing enjoyable!
You tell me YOUR name Horsemaster and I will tell you MINE! ;)

@Tarl: Well, obviously HiRo11er enjoys getting his rep high, which in turn makes him enjoy his game, ok? :)

@HiRoller- One of the best quests to get reputation points is the Nerevarine quest. Once you become the Nerevarine, everyone will know you. i think it adds, at the very least, like 20 points by the end of the quest.

Just do a bunch of quests, and I'm not sure about this but, if you kill someone important you get rep.
Is that true?

LOL!
There were a bunch of funny replies to this thread...

Coot & Tarl: I agree, it's all about that gaming experience. The thing is, I've tried most things in this game, from the Khajit slave to the Altmer snob... This time around I was gonna be famous! (I'm always rich, so...) It's all about changing your character from time to time! :)

Regarding quests, I'm 120% sure that there are a -bunch- of quests that do a whole lotta nothing for your reputation. I merely wanted to know which ones would. The main quest will make you famous, but I rarely do that right away. I'll become the Nerevarine when I've done all the other stuff, as well...
