@Tamerlane - Everyone loves the Beach Boys! I think they are deservedly rated as a genius band. The new 'Smile' proves to me that the genius was communal, and not purely Brian's...
I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one (this is why I love music discussions ). I for one view the Beach Boys, Pet Sounds as the greatest Beach Boys album but to me Smile will always be a solo effort.
On a similar note, I was lucky enough to see Brian Wilson and his 12-piece band perform when he was recently touring and it was one of the few times in which someone or something had ever exceeded its own hype, it was an amazing show.
@Grimar, you say Dream Theater is your favorite band, I got some friends who say the same thing and they go on about how brilliant it is. I know about 5 songs of Dream Theater I like them but I actually think they are a bit borring... and that's far from being brilliant. Could you explain what you like so much about the band.
Boring!!!! OMG. thats the last thing that band is! this is what i like most with the band:
Great guitar player(listen to his solos!!! Try the one about 5 min out in Erotomania.)
Changes- they dont go on playing the same riff all the song. this makes the band the opposite of boring!
i can't describe(sp?) what i like about the band. i just love it!
if you want to try the band, here are a couple of songs you should listen to:
Erotomania
overture 1928
song number 9 on "the scenes from a memory"album(dont remember it's name)
the mirror(real heavy!)
the test that stumped them all
i will edit with more songs if you are interested(sp?)
I once had a little teaparty, this afternoon at three, twas was very small, three guests in all; I, myself, and me. myself ate up the sandwhiches, while i drank up the tea. twas also i that ate the pie,and passed the cake to me
Well I listened to erotomania once again, and espescially to that solo, you're right that's a nice one. But do you know another day and sillent man? That two songs I just listen again this afternoon but I don't think they are that great, but maybe that are not their best songs.
