multiplayer:
Ranger
Fighter/Cleric
Monk
Cleric
Skald
Thief/Mage

This group absolutely rolled through the game

2nd multiplayer
Kensai (9)/ Mage (me)
Archer (me)
Sir Anomen
Keldorn
Aerie
Yoshimo/Imoen

3rd (still in progress)
swashbuckler (me)
korgan
edwin
viconia

not sure what you mean by profiences but these are the parties I have used in the game on insane difficulty. Insane is the only way to play.
Crush enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of the women.

Hello. Long time lurker, first time poster....

Well, as for my ideal party, after i completed the game in single player, I decided that I needed to give my major RPG addiction format a try in BG2.

Thats right, I did a typical Everquest Uber party.

For those of you who have played, this may seem familiar. For those haven't, stay tuned for my explanation.

First off, I wanted a challenge, but I also wanted to keep it simple, to see if it worked. So, you might be surprised at this VERY successful format.

Lead: Half-Orc fighter. AC 8 (11 if equiped with shield). Mostly used the Silver sword, or, later, the Warblade +4. But also had 2 slots in axes (for use in throwing the azure edge, explained later)

Second: Human Fighter(7)/Cleric dual. Basically an Anomen clone without the annoying banter. With the amulet of power, Jace's Mace (? the Demon killer), and a Mace of Disruption +2, he was the ultimate vampire killer. Get him up to fighter7/cleric 21 and this guy kicks a$$.

Third: Human Ranger (stalker) with slots for Halberd, Longword, and bows (manabow +4 is a damn good bow)

4th: Halfling Swashbuckler. Mostly used as another ranged fighter.

5th : Elf Enchanter. Crowd control baby. Using the ranger for single pulls (pulling one or two mobs at a time if you have the talent. It CAN be done.), the enchanter handled mezzing (er, hold, chaos, charm) add's while the party focused on killing one, maybe two mobs at a time.

6th: Half-Elf conjurer. In retrospect, I should have made him an evoker. He mostly did alot of damage spells, with some debuffs, mostly on opposing spell casters. Invaluable against lich's and such.

One key to this group was the Half-Orc fighter (surprise). By the time I maxed him at lvl 19, the bastard had close to 130hp's (!). Made the ultimate meat wall while the others did their stuff.

The other key was using the stalker as a pull artist. Often, I'd set the group back, and threw the Boots of Speed on my ranger. He'd go stealth, scout out the mobs, find an angle where only 1, maybe two mobs were exposed, and agro them with the mana bow. Where there were six, only 1 or two would come to the group. Both the Cleric (with the Amor of Balduran and shield, his AC was at 11) and the Half Orc tank would become the wall, while the Stalker and swashbuckler would go at it from range (the Swash had the gesen bow). The enchanter would de-buff, and handle add's, while the conjurer would blast like mad.

BG 2 melted like butter under this group. I wound up finishing the game in only 45 days with these guys. BTW, each was started at base level 7.

All in all, the Everquest style group did extremely well.

An interesting experiment.

Heres my all made party , it rocked and all are single class for maximum effect in ToB

Half orc Bezerker , points in 2 weapon , katana and warhammer

Human Monk put a point into whatever , really doesnt matter, 1 in sling is good.

Human ranger(8)/cleric , i took ranger to 8th since thats their first druid spell , allowing them access to the full druid line as well as cleric spells. Mace/Flail/club , duel weild.

Kensai(9)/mage i went with 2handed weapon skill and two handed sword, he used the vorpal blade.

Fighter(7)/theif got the big hps and ability to specialize , then immediatly switched to theif at start of game. I went with 1 weapon styly since you can crit on 19 or 20 , this makes for bigger backstab potential. I took Longsword and shortbow

I left last spot open for the occasional NPC needed. I found this group extremely powerful and only a few battles needed to be tried more than once.

I chose monk and bezerker for my main tanks for their immunities to charm/confusion and those annoying spells, i was very happy with both as front line tanks, however i did regret not being able to use the +5 holy avenger, many times i thought an inquisitor might have worked well too.

I used
Half-Orc barbarian ++ 2 hand sword ++halberd ++two handed attack

Undead hunter
++ long sword( Daystar )
++ Mace ( Disruption mace)
+++ dual

Half Elf conjurer
( got glasses of id)
Good all round divination no great loss
(except identification)

Swashbuckler (elf)
++ katana
+++ dual
(later) ++wakishasi/scimitar

Dwarf cleric/fighter
++ hammers ( thrower and Crom )
++ flails ( age )
++ Mace ( skull crush)

Otional
empty or inquisitor or Totemic druid

to make the game a LOT easier, use the inquistor+ carsomyr, kills mages and liches cold.

-or-

Totemic druids- like a second conjurer, Druid spells Fire and Earth Elemental + totemic animals(those things rock !!!) makes for easy battles
