erm.. help me someone!

Ok i have a question for u guys,

im doing the 'Gargoyle removal service' quest, and i read in the walkthrough on this site that if you talk to the creepy tremere dude in downtown he gives you an artifact to help you beat the gargoyle.
Despite trying every speech option i cant get him to give up the goods!

Any suggestions?

As far as I know he doesn't give you an item but information......

Persuasion

If you have a high enough persuasion Feat it'll give you a blue speech option and Max will tell you the gargoyle is his. After a bit more talking he'll hand over an amulet that halves the damage the gargoyle does and he asks you to destroy it. Quite useful since the gargoyle can really only be hurt with a sledgehammer at melee and it's pretty darn strong. Everything else isn't as good. Afterwards you can talk to Max again and he'll pay and give you a haven if you're Tremere. You can also convince the gargoyle to join Isaac and Max still gives you the goods. But if you tell Isaac about who made the gargoyle Max will ban you from the chantry forever. Though I'm not sure what happens if you already get a haven there as Tremere.
