I have been wondering the exact same thing...The interplay site has been down for like years and I think BIS died! :( I think what is left of BIS is now Obsidian Entertainment...But what the hell happened to Interplay?!

EDIT: Here is what it says on Gamespot.com:
The third installment of Black Isle's sci-fi role-playing series--code-named "Van Buren"--died along with its developer.

NO! :(
It also says that Berthesda is developing and publishing it...It looks like they took over.
Still; what happened to BIS and Interplay?

Well - most of that information is availble around the news and threads of this board, so use the search if you wish to find something more substantial or indebt, but from the top of my memory it goes something like this:

BIS was working on a project labled Van Burren which was to be Fallout 3.
However - BIS was killed by Interplay, and thus was Van Burren.
Interplay did some various thing and finnaly ended up bankrupt.
Bethesda has (recently-ish) bought the rights for (single player) Fallout labled games, and made a statement saying they were co-developing ElderScroll IV and Fallout 3, however, that is about as much as we know about F3 at the moment.

But as I said, search for Black Isle, Interplay or similar on this board, and I'm sure you'll find something.

It's simple, Black Isle Studios (BIS) is a division of Interplay, and BIS was engaged in the development of Van Buren (Fallout 3). Interplay eventually ran out of funding so they laid off most of the employees at BIS and then shut down the division all together. This cancelled Van Buren and now Interplay has no games in development and are slowly going under. Before Interplay's current position of near death they sold the rights (to develop and publish Fallout 3) to Bethesda. A lot of loyal Fallout fans are still upset about Black Isle Studios' death (including me) but we're readjusting our hopes that Bethesda will stay loyal to the series by making a non-linear depth based RPG that lives up to what Fallout is all about. Actually it's a fact that Interplay was having financial problems during the development of Fallout 2, that's partially why the game didn't have further development to clear up bugs and enhance the amount of options, or introduce different things. I'm just hoping Bethesda will take into consideration the new advances and gameplay innovations BIS was working on when they were developing Van Buren.
