Ofcourse! On a 486 (or just a little better.) How often have I seen him crash his plane or whatever he flew.

I don't remember it all exactly, but I remember playing it a lot².

Jop's married, and lives in Florida. You'll have to speak to his wife about any novel arrangements, and get rid of the Finnish frozenware.

But yes, Abandonia is an excellent site. That, and Home of the Underdogs are the best. HotU is probably the most thorough abandonware site around, though the pages take some time to load. Abandonia is a lot faster.

I remember a game from the 80's, it was action/puzzle solving type of game called 'Below the Root'. I believe the game was based on a series of novels, which I only think I seem to remember because the author's name really stood out (Zilpha Keatley Snyder or something, come on, it's been twenty years and if I looked it up beforehand I wouldn't have this opportunity to make myself seem mentally challenged).

Anyway, the game was really good. I played through it a few times because the game had different protagonists of different races within the realm.

It should be available via freeware but you'll probably need an emulator to play it. I remember running it on my commodore 64.

I've started up a new round of Darklands, which you can get at Home of the Underdogs. It's a great Microprose RPG from the early 1990s. Definitely missing a lot of bells and whistles from today, but it does some things that nobody did before in the genre (like randomized dungeon formations--and they told you that Diablo was the first, right?) and other great things that nobody has repeated (like the fantastic character creation scheme). Well worth the download.

A really great open source game is Freeciv, which is similar to version two of Sid Meiers Civilization. It is written by some truly fanatical civ players, so the rules have been rebalanced (and if you dont like them, you can always change them) and focus is on massive multiplayer games, but you still can play against computer controlled opponents.

You can get the first two Monkey Island games off various abandonware sites (probably Home of the Underdogs), if you want a game that's funny but will make your head hurt like never before. I don't think I've ever been forced to turn to a walkthrough so many times in a game. They really made me feel absolutely brain-dead because I couldn't figure out over half the puzzles. Oh, and you can't die either.
