Help with the Sheriff **SPOILER**

Post by ourmindo »

After many, many failed attempts, I managed to kill Ming. Now against the Sheriff I've tried all kinds of ranged weapons but he disappears and reappears behind me then chops me into minced meat with that huge sword. I can't seem to hide anywhere from him and haven't even got to the part where he changes into some type of bird.
I am playing Ventrue. It's my first attempt at the game but I guess I'm not much of a warrior. Any hints? Please.....

You have two good disciplines for fighting him with fortitude and presence especially at higher levels. I think the key is to have enough blood to restore both your hit points and your blood levels. You can then pack your discipline timer with several blood units by right clicking the discipline multiple times. Then depending on whether you went ranged or melee concentrate on taking him down while watching your damage. I found it much easier with melee swords than with any other method. Good Luck

use samurai sword, move constantly, and when he dissappears, whip around to catch him when he re-appears "behind" you with a swing or 2 before he can swing and run again.
When you get to the big bat sherriff, run straight to the spotlightflicking it on as his flightpath is about to take him through the beam. this incipacitates him briefly so you can runup and empty a flamethrower canister on his ugly backside.
Finaly, call up all your friends you made througout the game and invite them to a giant bat BBQ. Be sure to appologise for the lack of sauce, and the lighter fluid taiste. (you're not a very good cook)

The trick in this part is to never stop moving.
Get a gun, preferably a short ranged one (shotgun, spaz). Then race around on the upper area. Turn around, shoot while running into the sheriff, this should result in you doing enough damage that the sheriff jumps away to behind you but since you are moving forward already he should not be able to hit you.

The bat part, if you can't do the floodlight trick an alternative solution is moving to the sides. That is face the hole through which you just got tossed out of the building and run to the left or the right of the tower. at the end there is a small area where you can turn right/left and hide behind the tower. You now can peek around the corner to see if big ugly is on a general line to your location. If so step away and fire when he is approaching then hide behind the tower again.

Sheriff of Notwhatheseems

Finished the game again - with Toreador - and found I now have the knack with Fatso.

As I already knew, moving around is a VERY good idea - use the upper level and he will chase after you. You can run backwards quite well enough to keep away from him - all the time shooting him - the glock, mcclusky, killmatic (on single shot) and speyr all do well but the anaconda has a small clip size. when you have hurt him enough, he will teleport behind you, so when you see him disappear in a puff of smoke, immediately spin round and go back the other way. at first, it is easier to run away forwards and periodically turn to shoot, but with experience, running backwards is OK.
you can run fast enough without celerity BTW.

from a previous run-through, another technique that worked was the buffed-up katana-fest. the tai blade does considerable damage and you can disengage before he hits you more than once. like other characters, he does not heal like you do, so running around whilst recovering works fine to get you back to health as you cut him to ribbons.

I didn't even need the chalice or the elder vitae to finish him off that way.

it is wise to be at a decent level of health before the next bit, so if you are a bit low just before you can finish him off - run around a bit more to get yourself fit.

save your flame-thrower for the behemoth - it works REALLY well, as I have opined before.

quick-save as you are falling so that you have a good restore-point if anything goes badly.

the flamer is great though - switch on a floodlight from straight ahead so that if it comes for you it hits the beam. wait for the behemoth to fall down - its minions will attack, but if you position yourself between the light and the behemoth in line with the guards - you can swing the flame round so that it catches both the behemoth and its guards and not a drop of fuel is wasted! if you get it right - when it takes off again it hits the beam and crashes back to the ground to be grilled on the other side! fire in bursts, so that you keep it alight.

I took out the behemoth and guards with almost a cannister of gas to spare.

[the warform tmz is also rather susceptible to being fried, so get canned up before Hollowbrook]

another tip - store a flamer in your haven and buy another for everyday use - that way you will have it available for the end-game even if you later get a bit short of cash. I'm ashamed to say I even sold VVs picture to buy extra blood for the end-game, but selling guns etc that you will be able to replace - eg the anaconda, steyr, brock etc - gets you cash.

see my tip for sneaking out and about during the end-game - but remember that the game sets exit conditions that you may no longer be able to meet (I popped back into Mings and found that having tooled up with max ammo, I couldn't leave!)

Success!

Sheriff RIP.
Took him out after a few more attempts. Had very little life - undeath? - left in my vampire at that point but was able to turn on a spotlight and then hide, once dropped by the behemoth. He wasn't difficult at all. I found that I could crouch along the wall in the shadows, recover, and then take the creature down at my leisure with ranged weapons. I had carefully saved fuel for my flame-thrower and then didn't even need it.
Having opted for the go-it-alone ending I found it most satisfying to see that smarmy creep, Lacroix, receive his message from Jack.
Thanks again for the help. :p

Reference the ****SPOILER**** marking at the top of the thread.
If you don't want to know how to kill the sherrif, don't read the thread as it contains spoilers.

Question answered, thread closed.
The waves came crashing in like blindness.
So I just stood and listened.
