A multitude of questions...

Post by NoSoupForU »

I've played through BG2 twice, both with multiplayer parties. I've always kept an eye on the forums, but nobody ever seems to address my specific questions. I guess I'll begin. I want to create the ultimate power (and fun) multiplayer party for BG2 - including what we know of ToB. Here's my questions.

1. Which would be the best 6 classes to use? (please include weapon proficiencies)... thiefs seemed to always suck for me... yet many people vow that their capabilities are unmatched... please include insight to this specific problem too :)
2. What stats are important for classes? For example, for all my fighters I have always just done max strength/dexterity/constitution/wisdom (for saving throws, or I thought), and left the intelligence and charisma at very low levels. How does this type of action hurt me?
3. This is sort of a repeat of #1, but I would like to know the true story about multi-classing and dual-classing. I've never really looked into dual-classing because I never thought it was worth it.

Here's what I have so far.
1. Paladin
2. Thief (Bard?)
3. Mage
4. Cleric (Druid? What's the deal.. my druid can't get past level 14 or 13 or something!!!
5. Ranger (Archer)
6. ???

In short, I want to know what weapons work good for what classes, if multi-classing works, and what classes tend to be a fun game!

Thanks for any/all help in advance!

1. Monk, no need for proficiencies just use your fists.
2. For fighter classes you don't need high Wisdom unless your planning to dual the character, go for higher Charisma.

Wizards: INT,DEX and CHR and CON 16 if you can.
Thieves: DEX,INT,CHR and CON at 16
Clerics: WIS,DEX,CHR and CON at 16

Kits will require some adjusting and of course so would dualing if you planning to do that.

Multi-classing gives you access to all the abilites of each class and the experience gained is divided between each class at the same time. Humans cannot multi-class.

Dual-classing is for Humans only and allows you to switch fromt he class your in to another class that availble for your character depending on your stats. Once switched you no longer have access to the abilites of your original class until you reach the same level with the new class. exp. your a Thief and you dual at level 9 to Mage, you then gain no experience in your Thief class again and you can't use the Thief abilities until your mage gets to the 9th level. Once there you will be able to use your thieving abilities again.

That's all I got, anyone else want to chime in?

Ehh.. I was looking for more specific stuff. Like: "Don't dual-class this and this," or "This works good, but watch out for..."

Say, have you tried the Gamebanshee site? I hear they have tons of "Perfect Party" guides readily available... ;)

In fact, here's one. And here's another one. And another! There's more than this, too.

They're pretty in-depth. They'll tell you what classes to use, including kits, multi-classing, and dual-classing possibilities, as well as what stats are most important and what weapons are best suited to each character. Knock yourself out.

I use a more or less standard EQ (Everquest) style party for alot of my games, and it seems to work very well.

Here's the list from my latest group.

1) Half Orc Fighter (no kit). Prof's in War hammer, Axe, and two handed swords. STR, Dex, and con. Since it's also usually the party lead, CHA is helpful.

2) Human Fighter(7)/Cleric A great anomen clone. STR, Dex, COn, Wis, and CHA. A hard class to create, but well worth re-rolling until you get the right mix.

3) Human Stalker (ranger kit). Used for single pulls on various grouped mobs and for scouting. Plus, as a range guy to back up your front line meat walls. Same stats as your fighter, but use profs in Long sword, halbard, and long bow. Add a point or two for single weapon style as well for added AC.

4) Kensai(9)/Mage. A great back up melee. This can be replaced with a 'chanter, however, to better handle crowd control. While I like having my kensai dual weilding katana's and not much else, mainly so they can use the Crimson Fury and Dakon Zerth blade for the extra spells, some people swear buy a kensai mage weilding a 2 handed sword. I have done this, and it looks very cool. But, you lose spells in the process. STR, Dex, Con, and INT.

5) Halfling Thief (Swashbuckler kit)- Man, gotta have a thief. Traps, locks and pick pocket handling make the game MUCH easier. Plus, they make a great back up range artist. (I rarely use backstab, if ever). Proficiences in Short sword, dagger, and short bow. Dex, Con, and cha.

6) Some type of uber damage caster (Evoker, Conjuror, or sorcerer), generally of half elven background. A general mage can work too, but, you lose some additional spell slots. However, with the balance this group gives, you can give up some and not suffer if you go with a pure mage, or a sorcerer. Dex, Con, and int. Maybe CHA if you have the extra points. STR is wasted on a mage.
