Iron Golems: OMG

Post by EternalKnight »

Ok, hi everyone. I was wondering how you guys deal with Iron Golems. I only have one word for them, damn. They're so hard, they always kill me. Well, thanks for the advice

it depends on where you are and how many of them there are. in some places they get stuck in doorways(which some ppl deem cheating), other times you need to do hit-and-run.

I posted this one before but since it has come up: My first time through the game I found out that the Azuredge can hit those big golems - you just have to be patient. I had Minsc throwing that beautiful little axe again and again and again etc. stealing 1 HP every time. Since the golem was too big to get out of the door it couldn't do anything but stand there getting killed. I just went to the kitchen and made some coffee, returned and had gained 25000 (?) HP - BEAUTIFUL!

The last time I was in the sphere I run into a couple of Iron golems. I was suprised to notice that the sling +5 actually did full damage to them...

Because the sling is consider a +3 weapon in the game.the same goes for the "dont need arrows" bows.

That doesn't really explain it. Some of those +3 weapons only does like 1 or 2 in damage.

But they WORK! Tansheron's Bow gets the golems, too. Again, it is +3 weapon. A little patience does not do any harm. The bow and the Sling of Everard make the Iron and Adamantine Golems less harmful than goblins (the goblins can hit you, the golems hanging in a door can not).
A question. What, on earth, is Azuredge???? The description says nothing. This post shows that Azuredge is at least +3 weapon. (Explanation: I know that Azuredge is an axe and that it can be bought in CC.)

This is my first pst so don't crucify me ok? I deal adamantium and iron golems by equipping Jaheira (or other NPC with skill in staves) with cleric staff +3, when the iron/adamantium golems get stuck on the doorway i can hack them to pieces, they can't hit back and their killing cloud won't have large enough radius to hit jaheira, but you have to be careful not to get too close accidently because then, jaheira goes to the lollaby land. First time through (I hadn't figured out the doorway thing), I summoned 2 fire elementals, hasted everyone, and had the elementals enter the room. The golem attacked them while rushed in and I hacked at it from behind. Beat it with only Minsc taking some damage. Minsc had Lilarcor, someone was using Flail of Ages, and another character used the axe and hammer from the room.

Ever try the wand of cloudkill, only clay golems are immune to it, but then so are my invisible stalkers... Image

the golems in BG2 are a joke. the designers design most of the times they couldn't reach you, thus as mentioned above, use theranged weapon to kill them with ease(althought it takes aaaaaages) but easy ex Image

Clay Golems: Equip everybody with blunt weapons, surround, and stomp.

Stone Golems: I find Jaheira never misses with her sling, and kills them in 4 shots, so just keep somebody between her & the Golem and down he goes.

Iron Golems: Equip your hardest-hitting character with the Periapt of Proof Against Poison and hack away.

Adamantine Golems: ???Frustrating, slow, hit & run, doing a couple of damage each time. Very annoying indeedy.

The Planar sphere was a good one, narrow paths which restricted the fight to just one or two Golems at a time. I found 2 Iron, 4 Stone, and 3 Clay golems there. The last clay Golem did the most damage.

About Azuredge, it's basically the mace of disruption (+1) in throwing axe form. Can be bought from Bernard in the Copper Coronet. Anyway, I bought the rod that can kill golems in one hit, bloody useless. Aerie (with girdle of hill giant strength) had to use three stoneskins and an armor of faith and Minsc in order to clear out the egg room in the temple of Lolth. Don't count on that rod as your golem saviour (unless you fell like casting a few greater maliasons).

So ya wanna know how to kill golems, eh? It is pretty easy, just hack & slash it! For Clay golems just use the best blunt weapons you have and for other golems, just use the best weapons you have (+3 or better I think)
and then just do a massive attack with all your companions. (the one with the best AC and the most hit points up front, so the golems try to hit him)

My best anti-golem weapon is Rifthome Axe +3. You get it from Arkanis Gath after siding with Bodhi and retrieving the crate in the first mission. I equip this with Minsc or Korgan and start throwing away once they're all stuck in the doorway. It's much faster than Everard sling, it deals around 10 dmg. per hit.

By the time I got to Suldanessellar, Iron and Adamantite golems were no problem in melee.

adamantine golems are so easy it is not funny, you just have to retreat to a doorway and hack and slash with one party member (preferably who has flail of ages i.e no save vs its slow). even more funny is that if your guy gets low on health , move out of visual range and you can rest and continue the fight.

Or, if you have a mage, you can cast melfs minure meteors. Deals out maybe 1-2 in damage on each hit on an iron. but if you have 5-6 of them he will eveantually die.
