Depends

it depends on who you play as. One problem with KOTOR is that the best powers are for the darkside, but most of the Wisdom enhancing feats and items are restricted to the light side. But i would still definatly play dark side as a consular, others are your choice.

It's also harder to keep to the DS. Too many necessary quests end up giving you LS points, whether you want them, or not.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Maybe it's just me, but I felt that the story was better as LS; Revan is redeemed, he falls in love with his former greatest enemy, etc. etc.

Just my opinion. I mean, the dark master returning to his former glory is pretty interesting as well.

light is better.
some people think darkside but most games when you are evil some bad stuff happens to you. and the robes mentioned earlier are called the Qel Droma Robes.

I think they are crap.

Possible spoilers

If you want to get right down to it, LS is better for tanks and DS is better for force users. DS force powers are much more rewarding, and at the end, if you do it right...

you even get to kill Carth! He annoys the crap out of me every time. He is nasty with pistols though...

LS is better to do the first time through, and then DS after. LS you gain light side points earlier, and DS you get cash faster.

Been some time last I played this game, but I prefer DS too.

I was overjoyed when I got to kill certain members of my party. But it's not just that, or the fact that you get to be a downright evil character. Come to think of it, you get to slaughter a lot of people. But generally I go DS because I truly hate the Jedi code and that council. A bunch of lameass passifist old guys telling you how to behave and what not to do.

Not to mention that they give you A MEMORY WIPE. Like you were a droid or something. How can someone just forgive that and say "oh well I guess they were right from the beginning". The council is so worked up about doing the right thing, I can't see how THAT was doing the right thing at all...

K

I like DS better. I started out as a Scoundrel and went to a Jedi Consular. My powers rocked!

absolutely, definately no way i can ever turn evil.
no matter what game i play when i have the option of light or dark, i always turn good. i don't know whats wrong with me; fable, kotor, neverwinter nights...on and on.
there is just something about being good that strikes me...
in the end it is definetly up to personal opinion, and recently i have delved into the dark side in kotor, but it definetely sucks to not have Juhani and Jolee.

Honestly, it all depends on your playing style, and your reason for playing the game, and how you like to play it. Some people choose a path because they like the combat style associated with that path's force powers. Others, for a more role-playing sense, and still others just because they feel like it. My first time through the game, I played Dark Side, then beat it again the same way. Later, I then picked up Light Side. I like both, and they both open up different aspects of the game. The Dark Side has mainly offensive powers, used to strike at your opponent directly (Shock line) or weaken them in some fashion (Slow line, Fear line, Force Choke line). The Light Side includes buffs such as the Force Valor line and the Force Aura line. The offensive Light Side powers are the Stun line and the Stun Droid line, both used to incapacitate an opponent or droid. Light Side also includes a nice power: Cure.

One common argument I hear is that "Oh, Light Side has the only healing power." Is Drain Life that disregarded? Whenever I play Dark Side, I always get Drain Life at least. Death Field is even better, acting as a veritable Force Storm that heals you. Like I said; it depends on your playing style. Just read through peoples' posts and see what you think would be the best, but the best way to find out is to play the game yourself and see what is most satisfying for you.

I personally prefer Light Side, because I love all the buffs that boost you to the point of slicing through most opponents in the blink of an eye (even with a single saber) while still remaining accurate and un-hittable. Also noteworthy is the Charisma bonus for those persuades you've been having trouble with. It's also the most morally satisfying, I guess. A favorite class of mine (both LS and DS) is a kind of hybrid Jedi between a consular and a guardian...essentially a fighter that uses force powers to support a deft saber hand. Anyway...you have to decide for yourself.

I found that the DS ending was a little sweeter and I also found that my DS character was more powerful. He seemed to eat everything on the Star Forge with Death Field and Force Storm.

However, LS made for a more appealing story. I felt better about the decisions I made. As a LS character I was a hero. Let's face it, what is heroic about playing a villain? :)

i think the power point is debateable. as my lightside character is far stronger then my dark side character. combination of a strong saber, and master speed, she can take malak out in a single flurry. id pay money to see my darkside character do that ;)

I don't know about that- Speed is a neutral power, so if you made a DS melee character with Master speed he could wear the darkside robes and have a higher strength, flurrying for more damage...

I love playing a DS character. Nothing better in my opinion. The first time I played, I wasn't too sure of the whole d20 rules etc, so my LS character sucked pretty bad. After I got the hang of it, my LS character was pretty unstoppable, except for Deck 2 on the Star Forge. Those hoardes of DS Jedi really made the Load Game menu look like it was the only thing in the game. My DS character had a bit more success, but I found it harder to defeat Malak. I have the Yavin update from Xbox Live, and I am playing a DS character with a Double Bladed Lightsaber with (I'm not completely sure, stopped playing it for Halo 2 for a short while), Heart of the Guardian, Upari, Damind. I think its around 8-26 damage. My Wisdom is around, 16, and my strength around 19, and my DS character had no problem getting past Deck 2. I love just using Insanity, and Master Critical Strike/Flurry, a whole pack of Dark Jedi to bits.

Anyway, my opinion, DarkSide character (if you have Yavin) :)

Light side forever!

By far, light has the coolest ending. With the dark side ending, felt like Hitler.
Light Side made me all happy inside! Of course, then I had to do math, and that almost ruined it.....But light feels like the original movies more, and I am a Star Wars Junkie!!

It all depends on you!

To me, I prefer LS because it gives me a personal satisfaction than DS. However, it's not a bad idea trying to play a GOOD jedi with dark side power. I felt terrible using "choke" on innocent kids on the street :( . However, I was soooo satisfied using "choke" on Malak and his dark jedi ;)
(When I found out that the coucil played with my brain like a droid, I got really pissed, and I wished that I could use "choke" on those old jerks :D )

When I first finished the game as a LS character, I wanted to play a DS character just to see how it ended. However, I couldn't bring myself doing bad things, so my "dark" character ended up all the way close to 100% light!!! Yeah, he was a light character with all the dark side powers (which made it challenging to play the game because all of your powers cost too many force points to use). However, I found out that it was an interesting and challenging game if I played it that way; thus, I enjoyed the game more.

By the way, I like both endings :D . Eventhough I am a LS player, I prefer the DS ending (Being "Hitler" like you said wasn't that bad, eh :D ).

----------------------------------------------------
Just think about it...

Being LS, after beating the game, all you get is a piece of junk medal and a title of a "knight". You still have to obey the council. LAME !!!!!

Being DS, after beating the game, you become a "Lord". You get to make your old rules. (Bastila yielded to you unconditionally. You no longer have to smooth her). BRAVO!!!

Well, I read only the first page, but it seems like most people prefer going the way of the light.

Me, I prefer the middleground. I tend to do a lot of bad things, but I'll do good things, too, to even it out. If I decide I want to go straight-up light or dark, it makes no difference to me. The way I spend my Force points, it's not too difficult to regenerate, so I don't mind those so-called penalties for using powers from the other side of the Force. Also, the "items" that are specific to both sides, I tend not to need them one way or the other, so I can do without them.

When it comes time to choose to join Bastilla or to fight her, I save the game. Then, I go one way, beat the game, go back to the save, and go the other. It's kind of boring and repetitive, but at least I get both sides of it.

If I have to choose, though, I have to go with the dark side. Why? I'm a greedy sadist who should stay in my home and not endanger the community. :p That and I'm a realist, and reality tends to be a lot darker than light, although it usually hovers more in the gray area.
General: "Those aren't ideas; those are special effects."
Michael Bay: "I don't understand the difference."
