Need advice related to game content
Now I just got this game and my 10 yo brother wants to play it. . .BAD. Frankly, I've played other Bioware games such as the MDK and Baldur's Gate series and. . .there is no way in hell I would let him play those. I've never played this game, so I'd like to know if this game is more kid friendly? He doesn't know crap about the game engine or character builds or anything like that, I think he justs wants to see if he can turn his character into Darth Maul or something similar. I've got "skillz" with DnD type games, so I'll probably be able to test the waters ahead before he spoils me with 'em, but I'd still like input. From what little I've played it doesn't seem like Planescape with a prostitute every 5 feet or Baldur's Gate where you can kill just about everyone to your fancy. Thanks for your input.

Your dialog and action options allow you abuse and kill a lot of people, with the stereotypical idea of "going for the dark side." (As if most evil is committed by people that think of themselves as such.
) And you have numerous opportunities to burglarize the apartment rooms of average folk. Whether this justifies holding the game back from your brother or not is entirely up to you.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
Thank you fable, I hoping to hear from you. I just wanted to know if this game has a "deep" context, where going to the dark side is something that may be encouraged for the player (there must be 'evil' NPCs?). Like, "Yes Master. If the merchant does not give me the droid, I kill the s.o.b because its my destiny!" "Good, you are learning quickly my child." Eh, I would have a problem with my brother seeing that kind of crap over and over. . .

Like most Bioware games, the options are pretty wide open. That said, it is also part of the Star Wars series, and consequently the game is mostly PG-rated: I mean, how much sex or bloody violence do you remember in the movies? I have played through the game both Dark and Light side, and if you can get past the thought that the whole game involves cutting people down with lighsabers and using force powers on npcs, then you shouldn't have too much to worry about.
The other thing is that KoToR is an RPG, not a FPS like Jedi Knight. If you are worried your bro won't be able to handle the content, he might not have the focus or desire to play through a 30 hour RPG either.

I don't think there is anything over PG or if you stretch it PG-13. I wouldn't have a problem with any of my family members playing the game. The content is on par with the prequel trilogy if not a tad darker depending on your options.
I would say some of the stuff on the Simpsons is more vulgar/inappropriate than KotOR. If you play the Light Side you have a strong sense of doing the right thing and honor (at least I did)... I dislike playing Dark Side (even when I was a kid). If your brother is sadistic or something you may not want to let him play ANY video games.
KotOR is on par with Final Fantasy games, a little more than Zelda I think as far as "dark" content, but not too bad.
