Vampire skills any use?

Post by Hagatha »

So far I don;t think any of the vampire skills are of much use (Toreador) except Blood Buff. Mostly I sneak my way through the game, with a little help from my Magnum. Am I missing something? Even level 4 Presence doesn't do much.

Toreador have passive disciplines. Next time around you might want to try a Tremere if you want more offensive disciplines. My tremere was my favourite vampire -- thaumaturgy and dominate are very powerful. Obfuscate is good if you plan on sneaking and stealth-killing, so you might like a Nosferatu, and their bloodsuckers communion is handy.

But even the passive abilities make a difference...

:D I found that with my toreador the Celerity discipline came in REALLY HANDY when running from the werewolf in riffith Park. The enhanced speed kept me out of claws reach enabling me to run, hit the power switches and evade. I also used the celerity when fighting the plagubearer evangelist in plague bearers quest because he had the same discipline. Also I used it to fight the tsimisce so as to compensate for his teleporting. Furthermore presence IS very useful because it stuns groups of people allowing you to pick them off one at a time. It also lowers their stats making them weaker.

invest in training

celerity 5 is superb. presence does help in melee although I only use it when I want to get super-buffed and only have raised it to 3 in any character, but even then it helped in melee.
buff is the most regularly useful.
I think you would notice presence most in gang-fights where there are a number of opponents - it makes all of them weaker, leaves some a bit less focused and thus you can take out the most aware opponents.

I have the tactic of always attacking the opponent who can do the most individual damage - so if there is one with a shot-gun and the rest with 38s, I go for the shotgun. if there is one with a braddock and the others have knives, I go for the braddock, same with the killmatic. presence or celerity help with being able to withstand a number of others when you go after the worst assailant. celerity 4 & 5 are really powerful and presence weakens the lesser attackers.
you'll use those kind of tactics in Vics/chinatown club/SoL/Hallowbrook/Mings place - whenever the sheer number of opponents threatens to overcome you.

celerity 5 and obfuscate 5 vie for being the best disciplines I've used.

idd celerity lvl 5 is broken
u can keep hitting them ,even if u would knock them away u can catch up with them and keep hitting.
Then i would say fortitude is awesome.
Bullets, katana's and even claws bouncing right off. Now that i like ^^

I, too, am playing a Toreador and the one I use the most is Presence (l4) and Celerity (l3) in the end quest (spoiler) where you fight in the Golden Temple Presence comes in REALLY handy. I find I can stealth kill a lot of em but when I get 7 or 8 on me at once Presence has saved my ass more times than I can count. Bear in mind I'm melee orientated so I'm always in close combat.

Celerity had it's time in the sun with the werewolf quest, it was nice not to be under his feel for too long.. Oh yes and long before that where you are fighting the vampire hunters and you have to kill the boss guy - he's a ranged and he has holy light so he can easily distance himself from you if you're melee.

I used Celerity and ran back and forth in a zig zag pattern and he couldn't even get a fix on me let alone hit me :)

nonsense!

no use after werewolf?

try it when there are groups, like in Ming - if you like a scrap, it gives you an edge to be able to hit people in mid-air.

as for S o L - getting onto the ledge round from the upper level doorway to the prof and shooting from there saves getting damaged - Bach goes down to and stays at ground level. cel gives you extra shots compared to him, if you're really impatient.

it also makes running to the boat quicker, but you have enough time (by about 8 seconds) anyhow.
