Jahiera or Mazzy?

Post by yaanathn »

Okay, I'm stuck here, and need advice. I currently have Jahiera in my group, and she's acting mostly as a cleric. I orignally planned to dump her when I formed my final group:

main (thief/mage)
Minsc
Valygar
Mazzy
Haer Dalis
Aerie

In other words, Mazzy would have taken her place. Then, I thought, this being my second time through the game (first time I was good and did the romance with Aerie), that I might try the romance angle with Jahiera. But I also want her to actually be useful in the group! Right now, she's just a cleric, and while that's fine, I want to take advantage of her fighter class. The problem is finding good equipment for her.

main: dagger and short bow
Minsc: dual long swords and long bow
Valygar: katanas and I don't know what types of ranged equipment he can use.
*Mazzy: short swords and I don't knokw what ranged weapons she can use other than short bows. I'll probably give her a crossbow or switch with my main's ranged.
Haer Dalis: what types of weapons can this guy use? If he uses short swords, then it's a point for Jahiera, since then I won't have to split the best short swords.
Aerie: Staff and sling.
*Jahiera: probably scimitars, even though they aren't that great. Ranged? I dunno, darts? (This is a place where I need advice)

Basically, what are the best things that Jahiera can use without interfering with the other guys? And this question goes for Haer Dalis as well (no experience with bards).

I was planning to let Haer Dalis take Aerie no matter what, so if I had Jahiera in the group, they'd stop bickering (in theory. Will this actually work?)

Basically, if someone convinces me that Jahiera can be used on the front lines, then here's what I plan:

Minsc can solo, Valygar can solo, and Jahiera would team up with Haer Dalis (how well do blades fight in comparison to druids and fighters?) as a fighter and cleric on the front lines (while Aerie's complements as a cleric in the back). Otherwise, Haer Dalis will sit back and play his songs (can he be fighting while singing?) and protect Aerie while Mazzy goes off and kicks ass.

So basically, in the end, it all comes down to whether or not Jahiera can wear a type of armor and use items (bracers, helms, belts, whatever) that are good without conflict to the others.

Another thing. This site recommends having Jahiera be poisoned, doing that quest, getting some item from some "fat" merchant, and THEN doing Xzar's quest. Problem: I just completed Xzar's quest before I came back and checked. Is that extremely important?

As you all can see, I have many questions. I went through the game the first time bent on winning. This time, I'm aiming to get good items and do more quests.

HEEEEEEEEEELP!

I always have Jaheira wield a sling. She seems to do good with that. you might want to think about keeping her around considering your only healer is Aerie, whos skills arent all to great at higher levels.

Jaheira can make an awesome fighter. There's this +2 club with spikes all over it that deals 2 damage a round for a few rounds, EVERY hit. Obviously, this equates to some serious spontaneous damage. I also gave her the gauntlets of ogre power, the shield of harmony, boots of speed, cloak of mirroring, and red dragon armor. She's like a GOD. She beat the Unseeing Eye single-handedly. She's the Beholder Slayer.
She starts with specialization in clubs, and clubs won't interfere with your other characters. I have no idea where I got this club. For a ranged weapon, give her a sling. Slings are better than darts because magical slings apply a constant hit and damage bonus, and slings aren't used up Image. There's also this sling that applies strength bonuses as well. Therefore, you could have a sling that gives a triple bonus (sling is magical, bullets are magical, strength bonus applied)
For any mages you have, have plenty of Melf's Minute Meteors spells handy, as they are even better than slings.

Well, I have both Mazzy and jaheira in my group, and I think both of them are really great...
my group:
Keldorn
Minsc
Mazzy
Jaheira
Jan
and I (Mage)

Mazzy is the one in my group who has the highest lvl and most Hit points, but Jaheira is totally my cleric (healer).

My Group is
Myself(a elf(F) CG F/M
Jaheira
Minsc
Aerie
Amoen
(the last slot depends,I kick yoshimo out a lot for geting NPC specific quest, but I take Yoshimo to the "boat trip" and the rest you can gess...)
Jaheira is a good Figther, Mazzy is a good Archer.Jaheira can cast the "Insect Plage" the Anti-Mage spell in the Game,Mazzy have some special powers.
I say you try both for a while to see who fit better on your group and your type of play.
OOps I am editing.
About Jaheira weapons...Give her a Club(the Best one[Hell the only good one in the intire game]is on trademeet buy him from the nobleman like merchent, remenber You must free the city from the attacks and deal with the genies in order to buy stuff there)and a sling(the best one is on juluv[remenber to dowload the merchants patch here in Gamebanshee], and give her a shield(you can use a sling and a shield at the same time.
the good simitars is on trademeet too(well trademeet and Druids grove to be exact) the best one is on (a +3) is in the underdark.
(for the locations, they are on the gamebanshee BG II page on equipement)

The spiky-club is found in the Druid grove area methinks.

Jaheira is a pretty good 'tank' with the full plate +1.

The club is the +2 "Gnasher",and Jaheira performs excellent with it.Combined with Iron skins, she can be thrown into any battle.
She can also dual wield the club with the +2 scimitar "Belm" which gives +1 attack per round and become even better fighter.
This combo worked also great for my druid/fighter (dual 11/19 legit max):he had 5 attacks per round unhasted!
