Dont know if this is the same thing or not! But I got stuck here once, it seems if you dont get out of the elevator as soon as the door opens it throws a wobbly and you get stuck in there!
I went back to my last save and made sure I got out as soon as the door opened!

I'm not sure if you're experiencing a bug or just having bad luck. I had trouble with the elevator buttons a few times. I found changing my view point and then attempting to push the button directly usually solved the problem, eventually. If that doesn't work, you may be stuck with reloading an old save.

I had a similar (and repetative) problem. What I found that worked was the cross hair had to be exactly on the correct button (despite the correct button being hi-lited when not exactly on it).

Cursor Issues

I know with my game ( No patches installed ), that place the cursor reticule straight on the button wont work, sometimes I will need to point the cursor extremely far left of the button ( before the option comes up ).

Bit of a bugger sometimes, especially when your in a hurry.

Hope you get it fixed.

Just a stab at it...

I like playing toreador and once the game lagged a bit whilst going up. Unusualy but i carried on. Got stuck at the top. The buttons were black and not flashing. No seriously pitch black! Anyways i gave it a bit of time (made something to eat and had a bit of a sit down) and the doors opened fine. Im guessing patients is the key or a sledge hammer to your monitor :) good luck.

Never actually experienced them later in the game... and only encountered once:
- unable to get the lift to open in Asylum 2nd floor
- unable to get lift to reopen in Asylum 2nd floor (after failing to exit because I was too intent on the conversation)

Searching forums, these seem to be common issues. No choice but to reload to an earlier game. This happens alot to elevators either waiting to get one, or sometimes choosing a floor (or failing to when expected) in one. Just safe before triggering them so you have something to fall back on if something goes wrong. I believe its a glitch in the script, though no idea how it happens.

I had something similar, but it was user error. I got back in the lift on the 2nd floor and I'd press the button (which came up as 1) and the doors would close and re-open and I'd still be on the 2nd floor. After about 3 minutes of repeating this, I re-aimed the crosshair over the "1" button and it worked....I had just been assuming that if you clicked use near the buttons it would automatically choose "1" to go down but, not the case.

Elevator guide!

Patch's elevator guide for a good ride! :D

A step by step guide to not being stuck in elevators!

1-Press the button at the bottom (or top) outside the elevator.
2-Get inside and stand directly in the middle of the elevator.
3-Use your mouse to target the desired button.
4-Whilst pressing nothing else( no moving, no looking around anywhere else, crouching or walking) tap the action button (default key:'E'). It is important you do not double tap or press any other buttons.
5-Wait for the elevator to stop and get out (quikly!). If all is well you will have made it to your destination :)

By following these instuctions carefuly this should prevent silly user generated glitches with any elevator in the game :)
