Weapon for the kensai-mage?

Post by GREEN SPHERE »

im thinking about halberds because there are some really cool ones out there. ravager and Black mist but they are a tad slow. Katanas would be good too but the lacking of good magical katanas seem to bring down the odds to either halberds, long swords and bastard swords. any suggestions?

A good weapon combo for any fighter/mage or blade is to dual wield longswords...
You know which swords I am talking about right?

Man, a kensai would NEVER wield a halbred, not thier style. If you want a halbred, just take a plain fighter mage. Personnally, I see them using katanans, longswords, shortswords, scimiters etc, weapons that are fast and lethal. If you even mention bludgeoning weapons I'll bludgeon you

There's this katana that gives you extra spells in the special aditon, it's made for kensai/mages, and when dual wield with Celestial fury, crom f. or flail of ages they make a killer combo!!!
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

Halberds are just too slow, IMO: you get good value for each successful hit, but you increase your chances of doing collateral spell effect damage (paralysis, draining, poisoning, stunning, etc, depending upon the weapon) over time if you have a faster weapon. I can even see a case for giving a dagger to a kensai/mage, provided it had a number of magical attacks--which is my point.

with kensai- mage? god there is no better weapon than the Stff of the Magi. with the kensai's good Thac0, grandmaster in quartrstaff, put two points in two handed weapon style, and the amazing force of Staff of the Magi, there is no comparison...

personaly my favorite thing to do with kenshi/magi is to give them two handed sword, then quater staffs, i got grandmastery in two handed, and quater staff plus two point into two handed, while two handed weapon don't do quite as much of damage as the dual wields but i save the dual wielder weapons for my bard :) there always got to be a bard in every single party :D
bah bah, sig? Me? naaa.

One thing to remember is that some monsters arnt hit by edged weapons(clay golems) and some arnt hit by blunt weapons (shambling mounds), so a combination that has one edged and one blunt is quite attractive. Personally i like the CFury and Flail of ages.

IMHO, dual-wielding Katanas is the way to go. There's Dakkon's Zerth Blade (+2, Extra spell for levels 1-4) which you can purchase from Dierdre in the Adventurer's Mart. Put this one in your shield slot and never let go or you lose the extra spells. Then, Celestial Fury (+3)comes along which stuns your opponents (useful for solo play).

I can see how the staff of the magi would be excellent too, however. Nothing like going invisible in an instant. Maybe you want proficiencies in two weapons, one blunt and one edged.
