There are throwable hammers (!!) in Bg2, but no throwable spears? You suck!

Yeah, it's true. And what's even more baffling, the hammers even come back! I know magical items are magical (and also that throwing hammers are cool) but that does seem to be an oversight...

Tavi, please watch the language. Check our forum rules. We strictly enforce these. We're located in the US, and at this time a few complaints to our host about bad language, whether it gets through the filter or not, can get us cut off. Please abide by these rules, or posts will be removed, and posting privileges suspended.

I changed the name of your thread to something that will also make more sense to viewers, who will be more likely to post.

Install item mod and you have access to throwable spears. Not for free though.

I'm given to understand that Ashes of Embers provides a lower-powered, more consistent approach to throwing spears than Item Upgrade. (It allows mundane spears to be thrown, while Item Upgrade restricts the capability to a +3 upgrade or something like that.)

Item mod supplies some quite high powered items, that's true. For balanced gaming, it may be avoided.

Currently im soloing with tactics installed though, so I really appreciate the possibilities of combining rings, boots and so on, since there are no other party members that could take advantage of all the goodies I find.

If I'm not mistaken, the Underrepresented Items mod also packs in a few throwable spears, and I've read that it is relatively balanced.

BTW, I personally love throwable axes, especially the magic returning ones, which are as close to a boomerang as you can get in the game. :)

Hope it helps!

Well, the general pattern would seem to be that AoE provides mundane throwing spears while the Weimer mods give you magical returning ones. Maybe both would complement each other, I dunno. :)

I have a question regarding spears. Are there really no one-handed spears in the official BG2? WTF? Am I being too demanding? FFS, the greek hoplite carried a 6 meter long spear (=sarissa) in one hand, and a small round shield (=hoplon) in the other. If spears cannot be thrown, at least please tell me there are one-handed spears somewhere. If not, I swear I'll...

I know there's a staff mace, a sort of shorter one-handed staff, but I don't it's a negatory on the spears...

I'm sure everyone's seen Lord of the Rings: Return of the King... the scene where Galdalf dual wields a staff and sword is pretty neat, and (other than the staff mace) impossible in BG...
