too many spells

Post by joe05 »

Guys - is it possible to have too many spells ?
I accumulated a bunch of lower1-3 level spells and now I can't memorize "cloudkill"; which is level 5 ... I'm at level 9 mage ... WIS-19 / INTL-19
Also, could this be why I can't get the 7th/8th levels of Zermithon with Dak'kon ?
I'm think ing going back and starting from a way-back save and not adding so many lower level spells.
Which spells should I really buy/steal :-)

Guys - well, I didn't save far enough back; so, I can't non-learn all those spells.
I think I'm at 23 spells.
Am I screwed :-)
How high will I have to get my INTL in order to use "cloudkill" and/or any other higher spells I buy/steal.
Should I just stop adding spells ?
Is it a lost cause = can I get by with all those 1-3 level spelss ... is there enough skill raising points remaining to pump up my INTL high enough to use additional higher level spells ?
I'm WIs-20 / INTL-19 ... working my way through the Civic Festhall
How many levl-ups remain ... enough to overcome my screwup :-)

Guys - I'm at 34 spells.
Just found 4 in my Festhall room.
I didn't copy them.
Should I copy them, or am I at spell-overload already ? ... WIS-20/INTL-19(... will put remaining skill points into these categories)
I believe there were 3 level1 & 1 level5 spell in my room.
You you give me your thoughts on spells ... do I have too many now

I'm sorry to keep asking questions, but I'm concerned I did or may do something from preventing me from finishing this game.

I know you don't want to spoil it for me, but some guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You !

Well there is a maximum number of spells you can learn a spell level;it's based on your intelligence (meaning you can only have x numbers of level 1 spells, x number of level 2 spells, etc.). However, with a high enough intelligence you should be able to learn most of the spells you acquire. This means, that you really shouldn't be having any problems memorizing cloud kill (unless you've managed to pick up a great many level 5 spells, which I highly doubt).

Regardless, it shouldn't have anything to do with your issues with the 7 and 8th circles. Those net you "scrolls" not actual learned spells.

The only thing I can possibly think of that would be causing you problems with memorizing spells is whether you've remembered to pursue mage levels prior to attempting to memorize spells You do have to be currently a mage to memorize spells (meaning, you have to be leveling in the mage class. You can't be a fighter or a thief at present.). If you're doing that, then I'm at a loss. I'm sorry I can't be more help. Maybe others who are more familiar with known bugs or game issues I've overlooked will be able to help.

By the way, if you're just now in the Sensorium, you've got quite a few levels to attain still (I imagine that's in the ball park of half way through the game; perhaps a bit more). It's possible with the Dak'kon thing that you just need to progress a bit further in the game first to access the last two conversations. I may be completely off base, but that's all I can think of considering your int and wisdom is sufficient.

It's been awhile since I played Torment but as I could rememeber there is no limit to how many spells you can learn (at least I never had any problem with learning new spell).

Even if there was one you should not have any problem since Torment follows 2nd Ed rulles and by those rulles mage with 18 Int could learn maximum of 18 spells of each level up to 9th and according to GameBanshee walktrough max number of spell on any level is 17 at first.

The only thing that come to mind is this: When you find spell scroll did you choose to copy spell to spellbook option or did you cast it from scroll?
If you cast it from scroll you can not memorize it afterwards simply because you DO NOT know that spell.

Thanks guys !
Yep, another late night :-)
Done with the Festhall part ... may try going underground = though I have a feeling it might be too difficult
I'm trying to maximize my exp-points ... as of now WIS-21/INTL-20
I finally got the 7th/8th levels ?
Just added Fall-from-Grace BUT, I CAN'T REPLACE HER ARMOR ????? ... stole some nice AC armor for her but she keeps refusing it ... what's this chastity nonsense :-)

Going back to free Ingus and see what I get :-)

Will try and memorize some higher spells.
Going to remove those lower ones memorized and try and replace them with better ones.
I always put them into my scroll book before memorizing/using them.

I'm hoping to get some area spells memorized for the underground fighting.

Fall-From-Grace isn't a fighter. Don't use her succubus attack: stick with her spells. She gets Call Lightning, which is a good attack spell, Prayer, which is a wonderful party boost, and a range of excellent healing and dead-raising spells. Keep her in your back lines.

Fable - thanks.
I have my formation setup as 2-2-2 ... she is back left; or it looks that way when I move as a group

Still can't memorize any spell above Level 3 ?????
I've deleted my memorized spells; rested; tried to memorize cloudkill(5) or lightning(6), but I don't hear that "bong" sound as it shifts to to memorized/left hand side of the screen.
I get no sound; no nothing.
Can't memorize my Level 8 spell either - not sure what it is; was just checking if my other spells were "buggy".
So I'm stumped ... don't think I'll get far without area-killing spells.

I'm at Mage Level 11 ... WIS-21/INTL-20
Have on 2 rings and a bracelet ... I think one ring says cursed, but it adds +2 to my AC ... it doesn't mention affecting my spells or memorization abilities ? ... the bracelet was very expensive(...Annah pickpocketed it); I can't recall it's name - there were two of them; I have the better one and Dak'kon has the other = so I don't think the bracelet is the problem
I'm really confused !
I can't get Grace to put on the AC armor either ?
I've Google searched through 1+ page(...about6 walks) of walkthroughs/FAQ/Tips-Hints and can't find pertinent info.

I probably should have gone the fighter route ... he's only Level 7, so it looks as though I'd better get the spells and Grace's armor dilemmas figured out fast, or I won't have the neccesary skills to finish

At this point, I just don't know what to do ... invested many hours and just when I think I've got my character where I want him, the important aspects(...spells) of the character can't be utilized

Oh well, if anyone has any thoughts on why I can only memorize Level 3 or lower spells, please post your thoughts/ideas/tricks/tips etc... :-)
Only have two level 5; one Level 6 and one Level 8 spell(s) ... All the rest are 3 and below.
Maybe I'll get some good lower spells as I progress ? .. not sure what's out there :-)

Are you wearing armor that might interfere with spell-casting?

Fable - now it works ?????
No, TNO has no armor. Didn't even know he could wear any ... haven't seen any in the game so far
I didn't do anything, just bopped around stealing healing, and decided to go UnderSigil ... rested at my room ... decided to give the memorizing another try and it works ???!!!
I got 4 slots in Levels 1-4 and 3 slots in Level 5 = WHEW :-)

*** When do I get slots for Level 6 = WHAT SKILL CATEGORY gives me added memorized slots ? ... is it WIS or INTL .. or do I need to Level up to 12 or higher ***

Finished UnderSigil = had to run up and rest/reload once :-)
Was able to level up Annah/Dak'kon/Grace.
Even got Grace to wear the AC armor = again; didn't do anything different ? ... just tried to put it on her in the maze and it took

I think I remember the Cube has a maze = may try that tonight ... need all the exp points I can get :-)

Thanks for all your help ... I have no idea why it doesn't then does work ?

Intelligence increases your number of spells. Different items in the game can be worn by your character when in different professions--but as I recall now, you shouldn't have any problem with armor getting in the way of casting. As soon as you switch professions, inappropriate armor is removed. In fact, when you switch professions, be sure you look at your paper doll. You'll need to add items to your character's wear, since the game doesn't do this for you.

As far as Grace is concerned: you can not remove her armor (or Annah's for that matter) - you simply chose the other armor (the one Annah stole) and drag it to apropriate slot on Grace, it will replace the one she is currently wearing.

As for spells - when you select a scroll and examine it if I remember corectly there should be two buttons on the bottom of the screen - one would say "Use Item" (or something along that line) and the other "Scribe spell" which option did you choose?

I have found a description of "Ignus' Fury" spell here on this site.
But I have completed the game many times and have never found this spell in game. Does anyone know where I can find it?

Thx.

Spoiler;

Ignus can use it against you if you fight him in the Fortress.

Ignus had never used it against me in the Fortress. (i passed 5 times as a good character) In fact that battle was very simple.

But I am playing as an evil one - now Ignus will not attack me. Ignus rules! He is the most charismatic character and my favrite one! (and Vhailor sucks)

But how can I get him an Ignus' Fury spell?

You can't. Ignus WILL use it against you in the final fight IF you let him live that long (which, being so powerful, you probably didn't). Darn, I shoulda said that you can get it with Ignus's head :D (in case you didn't get the joke, usually you have to cut off a body part to get Ignus's spells, i.e. cut off your finger to get Ignus's finger for the spell attached to it ...)

Man, that sucks!

Then why does this spell has a discription, if PC will never see it? Oh, well, maybe there is a way to get this spell with some kind of cheat/crack/trainer?

If you are inclined to do so, you might be able to transfer the spell to TNO using Near Infinity.
