Favorite Quest

Post by Thomas77 »

I searched the forum and to my surprise didn't find any previous thread's or poll's about Favorite Quests! Soooooo, I took it upon myself to be the "firestarter".

Out of the major quest's within BG and ToTSC, which one was your favorite and why? I listed some of the major one's, but if you think that I missed one, please feel free to comment. Also, some of the quest's that I listed may run together slightly, but either due to the area the quest was in or the immediate purpose of the quest, I separated them (ie, Return to Candlekeep and The hunt for Sarevok).

Chris Knight: Was it a dream where you see yourself standing in sort of sun-god robes on a pyramid with a thousand naked women screaming and throwing little pickles at you?Mitch: No... Chris Knight:Why am I the only one who has that dream?

For me, it was a toss up between DT and the Werewolf Island. While I was playing DT, I loved it. It was freakin difficult at times, but it was great! Then I headed out to the Werewolf Isle. Not much happening there, but the story was pretty intrigueing. So honestly, I gave my tick mark to the Werewolf Isle. I'm sure I'll have some heated disagreements on that one!

For me it was Durlags Tower all the way.. I love the story of TrollKiller and his tragedy. Makes me want to write a nine volume book in forgotten realms setting. (But that is another story) My favorite villian too is the dopploganger. Near to rage, near to anger, cold the traitorous dopploganger. The dwarf really did go crazy before he died.

Me, I didn't mind Durlag's Tower except for the part of it in Ulgoth's Beard. UGH, that was annoying!
Annoying, but rewarding in the end, though.

Overall, my favorite quest was the return to Candlekeep. The adventure becomes more intense, and you also gain both a Wisdom tome and the Strength tome around the beginning of the whole maze portion of it.

Cloakwood mines definitely. The mines themselves arent really that interesting but Cloakwood has a really great feeling, I always look forward to going there.

I've gone for DT in this list (I loved the cult in Ulgoth's Beard too :D ) but my favourite quests in BG are some of the small random side quests that don't really matter...

...like the talking chicken (and not only because of the name of the spell that gets cast on him at the end *rofl*). It's barely even a quest, but it's amusing :)

Definately would have to say that the Cloakwood Mines are my favorite. Durlag's Tower is pretty exciting too. I'd say DT just for the storyline, but I just love killing Davorean at the bottom of the mines. His brother, The Surgeon, is pretty cool too when you get a chance to meet him!

I like small sidequests more than these big quests

What's funny is, I wrote down that I chose the Werewolf Isle, but yet I accidentally chose DT on the Poll. I guess my fingers know better than I do. After thinking awhile, I convinced myself that DT really was the better choice anyways....

Durlag's Tower, undoubtedly.

After completing the saga, through ToB, I still feel DT was the hardest part. I was on my proverbial toes the whole time, and I had to take things nice and slow.

Well, I haven't even entered Baldur's Gate yet, because at the moment I'm very busy with school, so I don't have much time. Meaning, that I still have to play 7 of the poll options, so I guess my vote doesn't have much weight yet. But untill now, I liked the Bandit Camp the most; I just love to invade the core of the bandit organisation, while they don't expect a thing, slowly closing in on the big tent, while blasting away every bandit that comes along. Also, there are a lot of good items and interesting enemies, so it's definitely worth it.

But apart from BC, I especially like the smaller side quests. Simply because they are often funnier and don't cost that much time, missiles and inventory space...

I did that quest too, very funny indeed. But what was the name of that spell again?

I'll go with "return to candlekeep", cause it was around there where the excitement truly begun.

SPOILER AHEAD!

After having played through the game in a calm manner, seen so many friendly faces, having funny conversations and just killing enemies out in the forests and mines and such, it became so damn interesting when it all changed...

When you couldn't rely on anyone, wasn't sure who was a doubbleganger and not, couldn't know who was alive or dead, and wrongfully accused of the death on the Iron Throne leaders! Damn, I practically shivered during the whole chapter 6/7 due to the excietment. How I love that part!

Yeah, the PC's return to Candlekeep is a definite switch the first time you play through it, because you aren't just stomping monsters and bandits and villains flat out in the woods. Trouble has come home, and you have to deal with it.

I like the ice labyrinth the best. I play a mage more times than not and I love mages duels. Although the mages in the game are all to easy to beat I like to give them a chance by just running right into area and let the spells fly! And I find the story there very interesting. Than at the end I like to kill Shandalar just to prove to him he was messing with the wrong mage.

I always liked the story surrounding Werewolf Island. It was interesting because in the end, you really screwed things up, even though you were manipulated into doing so. And the only solution ends up being killing everyone you hadn't already killed. I liked how it showed that not every quest is as black and white as "Good guy shows up and kills bad guys."

I agree, BGII is filled with quest's like that. Which is what helps to make BGII so great. But enough of that, this isn't about BGII. :)

My vote: Nashkel Mines

Every quest on the list is cool. But I'll never forget how it felt entering those Mines for the first time, way back when the game first came out.

I followed all the hype leading up to BG1's release (the truest AD&D experience to date, etc.). And then the realization that it actually lived up to the hype: buying it, loading it, creating a new PC, the Prologue, Gorion, Chapter 1, Imoen, being attacked by that first wolf...

For me, it was a dream game come true. (*grabbing my kleenex*)

As the story unfolded, Nashkel was the first great mystery of the Saga. Going deeper and deeper into the Mines that first time... the tension, the atmosphere, the suspense, the growls in the distance, the certain demise of anyone at anytime if but for one wrong step...

The first great Dungeon Crawl!
Why is it that whenever I finally get around to playing a new game for the first time,
I feel like playing Baldur's Gate for the second time...
