I think getting big and muscular is basically related to increasing your physical attributes (i.e. strength, toughness, and health). However, if you're just trying to get fat, just gorge yourself on various unhealthy foods.

Ummm, thats pretty much right, but if you want to get big like Thunder big, just save your game while berserking ;)

Your character's muscles are specifically related to the health stat, not the physique or toughness stats.

actually, the size of your character is related to Physique! =P

try it by putting everything onto Physique and nothing more...

im afraid i have to correct you there
health defines how long your health bar is
physique defines the weight you can lift, and the power wih wich you can swing a weapn
toughness defines how much damage can be taken without your health bar being affected.

they all affect different aspects of you physical appearance
e.g physique gives you bigger arms, abs etc.

I'm pretty confident all the physical attributes raise your size, as penguin reiiterated. I played a fighter type my first time, and I noticed a size increase after raising each physical attribute.

Out of curiosity, the speed attribute description notes that it makes you more lithe? Does it or any of the other skill attributes change your appearance (in the opposite way)?

if you look carefully after each accuracy level the pupils i your eyes get a little smaller each time, i think this is supposed to represent your eyesight becoming more accurate. maybe?

I know what I'm talking about. In my last file I mastered physique and got toughness to 5, but never put a point into Health and my character never gained a pound. Also, in the short scene that plays in the upper right when you're leveling up, for health it shows your character getting bigger and more muscular.

You might experiment around with the other physical attributes without raising health, I think you'll see what we're talking about.

Did either of you actually read my entire post? I did experiment with exactly that.

I was experimenting with a character that didn't have any points in Health or Toughness but used mastered physical shield for defense in combat. The following is what I did with his physical points:

first, I mastered physique - nothing changed in my character's appearance.

I put 5 points into toughness with my spare strength experience - aside from changes due to alignment, my character still looked exactly like he did when he was 18 and fresh out of the guild.

Just now to experiment, I put a single point into health. He became obviously larger and more muscular.

Now what does that tell you?

mine was completely different! =|

i didn't bother with health for ages, just concentrated on Physique until i was bigger than The Hulk =) then started putting some EXP on Health and it didn't make any difference what-so-ever... weird huh?

i think my game is on the glitch or something, i have loads of glitches lol =( might be worth investing in a new one i think! dropped to £30 in my local game store...

Well it tells me there are a number of possibilities. First of all,it may be that you have to have x-number of total ranks in the three attributes (i.e. a combined total) before changes become apparent. Alternatively, health might register changes faster than the other attributes do. Finally, it may very well be that either you or those of us who have not experienced what you did are experiencing a bug.

I do know, however, that I played around with the physical stats a number of times. Each time I found that increasing any of them (particularly after I had a few ranks) increased my character's size. The description on the "strength" tree indicates as much, for that matter.

Yeah, after reading in this thread, I'm becoming convinced that its either "advanced levels" of any strength attributes or a cumulative total of points in the strength attributes that actually determines your rate of growth. So I doubt you're experiencing a glitch.

Physique = No contribution to appearance.
Health = Increase size ratio.
Toughness = Increase muscle mass.

That's what they are for.
