Changing the child of Bhaal ...

Post by Pangur Ban »

I have just started playing BG2 in the same way I played BG1, using the multiplay
( solo ) method. So, for BG2 I ...

1. Imported my characters from BG1
2. Started up a multiplayer game using all six characters.
3. Saved the game, and then moved the save folder to the single player directory.

During the multiplayer game setup, I found that ...

A character put into the lead position in the multiplayer game was given the special abilities of the child of Bhaal, even if that character was not the child of Bhaal in BG1.

If the child of Bhaal character from BG1 is put into any other slot, they still retained the special powers gained in BG1.

In effect, it is possible to have two different characters both with the powers of the child of Bhaal, when you transfer the save game to the single player folder. One character as the main character, and another character in any other slot.

And now for some questions ....

1. Has anyone else done changed the child of Bhaal in this manner, and played a single player game with two characters with the special powers of the child of Bhaal?

2. How, ( if at all ) has this affected gameplay?

3. Not having gotten very far into BG2, I don't know if the child of Bhaal gets any further powers - if they do, what happens then?
-- Does just the lead character get the extra power?
-- Do both the lead character and the ex child of Bhaal get the extra power?
-- Maybe even neither of them it !!!?
-- Or does the whole game crash and burn in a flaming heap ??

There is no more powers given when you level up or do certain quest like there was in BG1.

The only time now will depend on your class .

There is one time you will get special powers..but to tell you would spoil your game.

Thanks for the info, Weasel, Chrissy,

I suspect having two characters with the child of Bhaal powers in the same game, would be OK. Otherwise there would be potential trouble in a regular multiplayer game if more than one player used such characters.

However, I still would like to here from anyone who played the game in this way ...

I have,

Party:
1 x Berserker
1 x Undead Hunter
2 x Bounty Hunters
1 x Mage (Illusionist)
1 x Cleric

All bar the Paladin had the inate abilities from BG1, but then the only change happen, only the protagonist gets it.
I've also noted that the inate abilities you recieve in creating the character are pretty random.
But it was good having multiple cure poison for when the cleric is indisposed.

Interesting comment about the random abilities, maybe thats why my imported ranger wound up with 2 buttons each with 4 uses of charm animal !!

Well, I have got a good character with vampiric touch - go figure, but getting the horror is good because I don't like to waste a spell slot on it.

In BG I it was based on your Rep. Here it is based on your alignment (they assumed we followed our alignments.) or they are just what you had in the original if you imported.
