Question about importing.

What I am about to explain I think might work, but I want to be safe.

I am going to try to start a multiplayer game in Baldur's Gate and create 2 characters, save the game, then move the save game into the off-line folder and play it as a single player game so when I am finished with the game I will have two CHAR files to choose from when I import to Baldur's Gate II. Is this possible?

I am trying to kill two birds with one stone so I don't have to keep replaying the original Baldur's Gate. Importing a character from BG to BGII is just something I have to do. If I just start from BGII my character feels soulless.
