Necromancy and Sharn gra-Muzgrob
Hi.
I've recently started playing morrowind again after months of addiction to BG2 and am currently playing a custom class Breton who specialises in stealth with minor magic related skills (more for role playing than power gaming - I even resisted choosing the Atronach for my birth sign.)
Anyway while doing Caius task and running errands for the afore mentioned orc woman (found in the Balmora Mages Guild) when I got a note in my journal I have never before encountered questioning whether the orc witch was indeed a necromancer. Now when I look at the quest list in my journal (I've got Tribunal and Bloodmoon installed) I see a Mages guild related quest to this issue.
Has anyone encountered this before? If so who do I need to talk to next to proceed with this quest - please note not asking for a major spoiler just a hint.
Thanks in advance

Ok - I was really beginning to hate the character so I've started again but if I recall he was something along the lines of
Race: Breton
Class: Custom (Stealth based)
Intelligence and Personality (favoured attributes)
Sign: The Steed (as Bretons are soooooooo slow)
Major: Sneak, Light Armor, Short Blade, Security, Speechcraft
Minor: Mysticism, Conjuration, Alteration, Alchemy, Armorer
Factions:
Mages Guild - All of Ajira's
Thieves Guild - All of Sugar-Lips's
Blades - Retreived the dwemer puzzle box and the skull for the afore mentioned orc woman
House Hlaalu - Ald'Ruhn codes, stealing the alchemaeic formulas and was in the process of sabotaging the egg mine
Freelance work
Most of the minor quests in Seyda Neen - Fargoth's hiding place, murdered tax man and the nearby bandit cave
That's all I can recall of the top of my head. Although I am no longer playing that particular game it would still be nice to know the outcome for when my new Breton character faces this particular probem.

I've often wondered about this as well. For some reason I have never looked into it. I even have the prophecies and haven't looked it up. I'm sure there are mods that maybe make her teach necro spells. I'm also wondering if there is anything in-game that proves she's a necro. She obviously is.

Me too
I found this quest almost every time I play Morrowind, and I can't figure the durn thing out either. I've tried some probes into the Temple and Imperial Cult looking for answers, sources of information on necromancy, but no dice.
I didn't even know this quest existed until I installed Tribunal and got the handy quest tracker. Now it's sitting on every single one of my games, unresolved, and I have no leads.
Most recent char is:
Race: Breton
Class: Mystic (custom class)
Sign: the Apprentice
Current Level: 6
all Attributes are right around 50. Luck is the lowest, at 40.
Major Skills:
speechcraft, blunt weapon, athletics, desctruction, mysticism
Minor Skills:
alteration, restoration, unarmored, illusion, conjuration
It's my most recent attempt at making a spellcaster. I've joined House Telvanni, and I'm working on Magician in the Mages Guild. I'm going to see if I can resolve this quest, or find out if it's a bug. I'll keep posting.

The good news: I did this quest, and I took notes.
The bad news: I'm on vacation, I did the quest quite some time ago, and (obviously) I don't have my notes with me.
When I get back in a week, if I can recall this thread, I'll post about the quest.

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
