So I've reinstalled Morrowind on my new computer and am restarting it for the first time in three years with a new character. I'm also using Better Bodies and Better Heads btw.
The thing is I'd like to have a female Breton fighter. Fighter because I feel like it and female Breton because I like the look of them. But maybe the penalty of choosing a Breton for fighting will be too frustrating?
I'd also like to skip armor if possible - which I guess means focusing on unarmored combat? This is also for aesthetic reasons, but also because I see her as a dashing female swordwielding Robin Hood rather than a knight in shining armor.
Would it work or would she just be too weak for comfort in the short/long run (albeit very beautiful at it)?
Thanks in advance for any input.

I don't see any reason as to why a Breton couldn't be a fighter. I played a Breton fighter/mage type for a while and she kicked serious butt. It just depends on the skills and attributes etc. that you select.

any race can do any class, it just takes a little more to get going with them.
if you have unarmored, make sure to take acrobatics and athletics to make the most of it.
that way you can hop around and jump over enemies and neat stuff like that.

There are hardly drawbacks to a Breton fighter. The Resist Magicka power you get from the beginning is really helpful, and although you'll be playing as a fighter type, I'm sure you'll use magic and the extra Magicka (0.5xINT) comes in handy for all kind of characters.
However, the Unarmored skill is a bit buggy. There's a patch at MW summit that'll fix that.
If you're interested in aesthetics, you ought to download the Metal Queen's Boutique mod. It adds a shop in Dagon Fell with the most beautiful and sexiest clothes in all of Tamriel. Not only that, but the whole mod is so well done, it shouldn't be missed if you're playing a male char.

Thanks for all the advice. I'll stick to my cool Breton female fighter than. As for armor - I could always use two outfits, one for travels and one for fights. Studded leather sounds nice...
Coot> I'll check out the patch and the Metal Queen's Boutique mod. Great name for a shop.
Monolith> Actually, Robin Hood was a bad choice of image when it comes to likeness - think of her more like a cross of Uma in Kill Bill and Poison Ivy in Soul Calibur...
Also - when I played it three years ago, my Mage started out embarrassingly weak, often being killed by a rat while just walking around. My reaction was to power game him into a fearsome mage/fighter. And the result was that he was godlike after, I don't know, 75 hours of gameplay. Which became really boring after a while. This time I'll probably relax and let the character be much more all around capable.

That's basically it in a nutshell. I've been playing a Breton fighter with auxillary magic for some months, with most attributes in the very high range by now, and several skills max'd out. I do suggest you check out a few of the other mods available to see if they might help tailor the game a bit. For example, do you want magicka to regenerate very slowly on its own, rather than wait on sleeping or use of a potion? Do you want to eliminate the use of Reflect, both by yourself and others? Do you want to make unarmored potentially more powerful as a skill? All of these are available through separate mods.

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
