Sometimes It Doesn't Pay To Be Good Neutral!

Post by Ariona »

You know...sometimes I think I am too nice because all kinds of crappy stuff happens to me. And I wonder if I 'let' it happen. Let me give you just one example.

The other night, my landlords (my roomie's parents) put a "For Sale" sign on the front lawn...without notice. Now legally, they can do that because it usually takes 30 days to close on a house...and that is not including time for people to start placing offers. Therefore, I have plenty of notice after all. However, it sucks for me for several reasons:

1) I just moved to Cleveland 9 months ago.

2) Jobs are so tough to find out here that I can't afford to move to another part of Cleveland and still be able to cough up deposit and first month's rent.

3) Now because of the lack of jobs in Cleveland, it looks like I would have better luck finding a job in Albany that is geared toward my medical training...so I have to apply online and HOPE I land a job.

4) I have to move all my crap...AGAIN!!!

I'm seriously thinking about switching to Chaotic Neutral.

Any suggestions?

How would changing your personality affect any of this? ;)

Ariona, it's not your "Good" nature that's the problem, it's their "Evil" nature. I mean they have the right to sell their home, but it would have been nice to get a decent notice. Unless of course they're having financial trouble....

I'm not sure it has anything to do with either a 'good' or 'evil' nature ;)

It sounds as though your landlords are being extremely inconsiderate, and your hands are effectively tied because they are your roomy's parents, which makes it awkward for you to voice any sort of anger.

I definitely relate to the upset and frustration of having to uproot again though. I had to do a lot of that while I was growing up, and like your present situation I had very little control over it. Being propelled about against one's will is never easy...

I won't say that "things happen for a reason," since that just gets into an entirely different ball of wax, but sometimes when events occur, once we have come through them and look back, we see that perhaps there was a positive side. Maybe in you case this will be translated in a positive step for your career.. ;)

Good Luck with it all :)

My landlady happens to be a nurse, and she's from Atlanta originally. I guess down there, they need nurses so badly they'll pay A LOT more for salary there than here in NY. Might be worth it for you to consider that as an option. I guess she's been arguing with her husband about moving. She could end up making more than double her current salary if they moved and she accepted a job down there. I was thinking of mentioning that to you before, but didn't as it would involve moving. If your being forced to move and need to look for a job anyways, well that might a decent opportunity for you.

That really sucks they didn't inform you. It sounds like they have no spine and were afraid to let you know. :(

Thanks for your opinions, guys! I really appreciate the input. There are days where I think I am just too damn nice and 'let' things like this happen to me...which is why I was thinking that I need to be more of a hard ass. I have been trying to think of this in a positive light (i.e. Job upgrade/not having to deal with the crap that led up to this). I wasn't sure if there was anyone who could relate to this or not, but it seems to me that some of you know exactly where I am coming from.

I would consider moving south, but most of my family (including my one and only niece) reside in NY and I wouldn't be able to stand being that far away from them at this time in my life. If I was an RN, life would be different for me because there is such a nursing shortage in the entire USA. But seeing as I am just a medical secretary, that makes my life extremely difficult.

Thanks for understanding!
