The most stupid character of BG2
I agree with Astafas as to Anomen, plus his personality improves with the love of a good woman
But, really, Aerie is not that annoying, sort of like a little sister, just have to introduce her to the right men and the 'real' world will smack her in her 'pouty pity me' mouth...
(And yes, I agree that Nalia can be a wee bit annoying)

Vivien,
I take it that your character is romancing Anomen??? Miner spoiler...
A question, after you've done the deed, and convinced him NOT to avenge his father's death by killing Saerk, is it normal for him to shut up? It has been a very long time since "we shagged" and since I dissuaded him from doing in Saerk, and I haven't heard a peep from him. And yes, I don't find him a bad character at all, he's an excellent tank and a highly capable cleric. His personality could be improved upon but I've given him the benefit of the doubt by assuming that most of his puritanical arrogence is the result of insecurity and family baggage.

Actually, Valygar reminds me a little of my partner, the brooding type. Might be why I wish I could try him out too. Although, personalities aside..... both he and Anomen look pretty good without their armour. Hey what can I say, visuals turn me on.

Dragon Wench: Actually he does shut up (sort of). He starts making 'happy' comments for awhile, and then romances you in earnest, his complaining is highly cut down on I ran into a bug which set my Anomen romance back though, so I'm going through it again. (just couldn't make myself play as a male, I tried, but it just felt weird.)
Jennabard: I've had a lot of complaints as to Anomen, and I feel that he's a nice guy...just needs to get rid of his demons. But you have to admit Minsc is the best (as to eye candy)

Thanks Vivien. What bug did you encounter? If you're female and playing a male character, it is definitely a little weird to romance one of the women. In my last game I did the Viconia romance, figuring that since I'm not always the sweetest type, I'd have lots of insight in dealing with moody women. Little did I know.....she makes handling (no, not that kind of handling...)
Anomen seem a breeze. Does anyone else wish that their PC could initiate dialogue with party members

Dragonwench: The bug I encountered happened after the underdark, we exited and several crucial Anomen Quests were thought by Anomen and others as not completed. These quests are triggers for the romance, but I was so close to the end, and had basically finished the romance, that I just finished the game. I'm playing through again, hoping that whatever caused the game to forget certain events doesn't happen again.
In rereading your post: Have you been called to the Order of the Most Radiant Heart? It should happen after you convince him not to kill that Saerk (not right away though). That might be why he's mute.
As to playing a male and romancing the women: I had Vic, Jaheira and Aerie in my party. Again, Jaheira annoyed me as the 'big sister' type, I saw no reason to try to fight with Vic as she kept insulting all of my party members. As you can see, I just didn't last long as a man, just wanted to smack those two around

Vivien,
yes, I have been called to the order, he got his knighthood, fairly soon afterwards we had sex (in the sewers under the temple district ....hee hee)and I also held his hand the second time when he wanted to kill Saerk upon learning of his father's death by assuring him (once I found him again at Saerks mansion)that we'd get through it together etc etc. Since then, nothing. Is that it until ch.6?

i think that i went through that reset bug with the anomen romance too. i didn't even get a chance to get some nooky. i'm working the game a second time through, this time as a kensai, hopefully i'll get somewhere.
the idea of creating a male pc is kinda weird for me also, but i want to check out the other romances and it will also get me a chance to check out the different classes.

Jenna: Hmmm...there is the patch that allows one to have multiple romances, it also enables same sex romances. (if you want to play a woman and have a woman 'lover'). I've never actually tried it, but that way you get to experience the 'whole spectrum'.
Dragon: Hmm...the bug I encountered actually made it so I didn't get to his father being killed... I think you've gotten farther than me

Hmmm....
While playing last night I forgot that while in the Spellhold Dungeon you have to be careful about resting after the Bodhi/beast transformation encounter. So upon waking Anomen suddenly popped into my screen and solicitiously remarked "my dear, you're shivering, should I stoke the fire" (ahem... ok I admit my mind spends more time in the gutter than it should). After some more dialogue which concluded with my warning him to stay back, I turned into the beast and proceeded to attack him. At that point I reloaded because I figure that trying to kill one's romantic interest while in the form of a big, hairy nasty would not be conducive to a successful "relationship."
Regarding the bug: Did either or both of you (Vivien, Jennabard)head off to rescue Imoen almost immediately after Anomen obtained his knighthood? I imagine that messengers would be unlikely to reach him on the island, so maybe that would cause quests to be seen as incomplete upon surfacing from the Underdark (especially if it is timed).
Anyway, I'm about to confront Irenicus (Spellhold) and then head into the underwater/Underdark cities. I'll let you know what happens, if you want.
I probably should have started a new thread here, I'm surprised the moderators have not said anything. Sorry about that.

Dragonwench: Hmm..come to think of it, I did go after Imoen RIGHT after getting him knighted. I didn't think anything of it, because he flirted with me in the Saughaem (spelled wrong, those fish people) city...but upon exiting the underdark it was as if there was unfinished business, which I was not allowed to finish. Please keep us updated on the romance
actually, i stuck around after his knighthood for as long as i could, working on some of the side quests and the whole father dead scenario never came up. i do want to see the whole spectrum of the relationship which is why i'm playing a female again.
as to playing both sides of the fence, it is mighty interesting but i don't care for any of the women of the group, except maybe edwina it would have been fun to smack her/him around and have her/him like it.
after some thought i found out i don't like jaheira as a person. to jump into a romantic relationship so soon after kalid's death just shows how deep her emtions really go. not deep at all. its one thing to want consolement and have an "accident" happen than actually persue it. she always goes on about whats right. well isn't right to have period of morning last six months to a year?
