voice problem

Post by jlau2001 »

hi guys,

I am a newbie here, I just got a copy of Planescape Torment recently.

I installed the game and everything ok, until I start the game.

In the very beginning of the game, right after the Nameless One wake up, then Morte appoach him and say something 'Hey Chief blah blah blah..'
with some voice acting

Then when is my turn to answer him, I don't hear any voice acting from nameless one and also no voice acting from Morte.

So that means the whole conversation was plain text except the very beginning of the sentence...

During the game, I can hear their voice acting when I order them to move or perform some action.. The thing is I just can't hear their voice acting any more..

Does anyone know what is happening ? your help will be greatly appreciated !!

The earlier Bioware games appeared at a time when CPU processing power and RAM requirements were lower, and hard drive space less, than in modern games. As a result, less voiceovers were done for characters. You'll find that at the most, characters voice a single line in PS:T; the rest is text. And no voiceover is used for the NO, because that's you.

Hopefully that won't destroy your enjoyment in the game. It is in my opinion one of the finest RPGs ever made, and far superior to such titles as KotoR 1 and 2.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

hi fable, thanks for you quick response.

So that means all character will have at most 1 line of voice in a conversation ?

Well is that the case I don't mind at all, because I thought all characters should have their own voice acting since PT has 4 CDs capacity.

There will be none at all for many dialogues.
With conversations involving major plot stuff, there may be more than one line, but in different paragraph beginnings.

thanks guys.

Well I guess I can't expect too much for this game. You know why I think there should be voice acting in dialogue ?

Because in games like fallout, fallout2. When we are talking to certain people like Macrus, Sulik. They have a voice acting in the whole conversation.

Well I guess PT won't put all voice acting since there are WAY too many text to read..
It will be very cool if every dialogue, every conservation have voice.

Anyways, I will gotta enjoy this game.

Cheers !

On the plus side, the voice acting that is actually in the game is very good. It has one of the best voice-casting ensembles of any major RPG.

As Fable said, if it had been developed in more recent days there would be substantially more voiced content. However, I think you'll find the game kind engrossing even without the continual voice-overs, though. I know I did.

Most of the space is taken up by the backdrops for the areas. They're basically really large images.
