Assassins in the Docks

Has anyone tangled with the assassins in the Docks area located below Cromwell's shop? I just wandered into what looked like a warehouse, went up some stairs and was wiped out almost immediately by assassins who suddenly appeared out of nowhere. I went back dozens of times during the game with different strategies and at different levels but still got hammered every time. As far as I can tell, it is not connected to a quest.

Yeah, I found them. I never found any related quest either, I just walked in and they attacked me. I don't recall having any problems with them, though. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a related quest.

Do you mean Mae'var's Guildhall? After I killed Mae'var I entered his guildhall again (some time later) and was attacked and killed immediately by shady assasins (Arkanis Gath or something they were called). They are probably members of that other gang Mae'var was dealing with (Night Hawks?) in bringing down Linvail.

the only way you wont be attacked in either guild halls is if your an assassin or thief yourself. talk to the guy in the slums that says Coo alot and i think one of his escorts takes you to the district exit wherhe the Coo guys wants you to go to Renal Bloodshed. you can go into his warehouse wiht no one attacking you, but you have to talk to Renal to get papers in to the other guys guildhouse, and you wont be attacked in either
