I was going to make a comment about no-one needing smilies anyway, but seeing as we are the only posters on this page who have used them? I'd better keep it mum
lol
I tend to agree though. While I'll use smilies in PMs and on forums (just to avoid misinterpretation), I stick to their punctuation sign equivalents in email. Or I'll do things like write *grin* in Italics.
I actually find that too many smilies in an email are cluttered and obtrusive, but that is just me.

I agree. But on the other hand, I'm a sarky creature, so I tend to use smilies or asterisks to confirm that all comments I make, are in fact jokes, not me being mean I like the GB smilies though. They cover all difficult to show emotions, and look great. And I can be cheeky with them!
Mag: Don't remember much at all of last night do you?
Me: put simply.... No
Mag: From what I put together of your late night drunken ramblings? Vodka, 3 girls, and then we played tic-tac-toe and slapped each other around.

Do you really think smilies cause clutter? I use them all the time I really think smiles can make people happy I mean, who wants to be sad all the time? Come on smilies are cool and to anyone who doesn't like them

@Giles,
good point! Actually, if the email smilies out there were like GB's I might use them myself. They are nice and discreet, and convey all that is needed.
@Cuchulain,
Well, perhaps I was being overly harsh, blame it on my periodic plunges into minimalist cynicism

Plus, the In my sig, is a lot easier than typing
" Yeah, well I know my post was kinda mean/offensive/rude but I'm a nice guy really, and I did it with the purest heart possible"

Not at all! I just thought the thread was begging for an asonine post, mostly because typing in the age of the text message (i.e.- "OMG did u c? ttyl ") is a pet peeve of mine.
Plus, it's April 1- who doesn't like a little sarcasm

But why post here! <- My confusement, and dejectedness are perfectly portrayed by these masterpieces! Did this guy not see the "other games" forum?!
@DW I guess they aren't the hugest files, you could always copy and paste them into messages. (p.s. Please post in the new Word Association Thread! I Don't know what Ned is on about! )

I didn't see the other games forum, but I will take a look if you recommend it.
As far as why I posted it here, I was reading the conversation between you and DW and I thought a sarcastic post about how "great" smilies are was in order. I should know better than to try to use sarcasm on the web, but occasionally I forget. If you re-read the posts leading up to my... um... "contribution" you might think that the thread was ripe for a little ribbing as well. If not, then mea culpa. Hopefully you didn't get too aggrivated by a well intended post.
In all truth, I think I tend to use the smilies more than other people, which is in part why I made the sarcastic post to begin with.

Ha! Well, I guess this is just another example of how the internet can make communication more difficult. I though you were peeved by my smilie-ful post.
(Can you tell I'm worried about people misreading intended sarcasm on the web? )
EDIT- Somehow, I totally missed Asi's post. Now everything makes sense. Furthermore, I have been posting about Halo in the other games forum for the past 2 days. The lesson, as ever- I'm an idiot.

Well people have been using gmail for quite a while now. My sister has had an account since probably last summer, and up until now accounts have been granted by invitation only. I don't know how it's gonna work now. Why the worry that google will go down the drain as the prefered search engine just because they're adding e-mail to their arsenal? They've done good thus far about keeping things clean and streamlined, so as long as they allow proper accomodations for all this webstorage they're promising for their e-mail accounts we should be fine.
