How can i listen the music of SOA and TOB??

Post by Hamletxx82 »

is there anyway to listen the musics of the game in Mp3 or another format without starting a load game. For example the theme when u re fighting with a boss is so good.I really liked the ones when u enter Watchers Keep area , the one playing when u finished the game and the theme in Amkethran. Is there a special program that converts the music files of game into most common forms???

Interplay used to provide them in their site, free for download. At least BG1 and 2 soundtracks. I havent found the tracks for ToB, but they may exist too.

I know for a fact that the music files from the game can be extracted and thus played as independant 'song' tracks. But I have no idea how to do this personally... I only know that a friend of mine once did this quite successfully.
I think you must need to convert the music files into a readable format, but again, I'm no techie..

There are free tools for download, I believe, that converts Infinity Engine's rather strange sound format to something more amenable to modern-day music players (like .mp3 or .wav). Don't know where you'd go to download them, however. About a year ago I downloaded one to listen to Planescape Torment's excellent musical score, so you might want to Google "Planescape Torment music converter" and start from there. Not quite sure if the PsT converter will work with BGII, but it should.

Download that program, then use it to open the acm files in your BG2 music folder. This will convert them to wav files which you can of course listen to!

You can use Near Infinity to browse music files in any of the games that use the Infinity engine, but you also have to install Java and a copy of acm2wav.exe. After you listen to a music file, a .wav file will appear in your game directory (where acm2wav.exe is located). It will disappear when you listen to the next file, so you have to copy it to another directory before it gets deleted. There might be an easier way to create batches of music files, but I have always worked with them individually.

Regardless of which browser or music player you choose to use, you have to use acm2wav.exe to convert .acm files before you can listen to them. I can't remember where I downloaded acm2wav.exe, but I think it was from the link that trance provided. I just downloaded it from that link and didn't find any trojans attached to it. So I don't know what the deal is with that.

Be aware at using a straight converter will not present the music as a whole.

Bioware sliced the music scores up into multiple sections, so the engine can play ending to battle music as soon as you've killed the monster, for example.

Hence, be prepared to fiddle around a bit to create a whole, single music track :)

Luckily for me I got the soundtrack with the collectors edition

I think the soundtrack is included in the bonus CD you get with the Collectors Edition of Baldur's Gate 2. Ahh, another thing to check when I get home. Will report back with my findings.

Aaaaahhh! I have been ripped-off, scammed, robbed blind!!!

There's no soundtrack on the bonus CD! Even when it says so in the box! Just character sounds in MP3 format, but no soundtrack. Seems like ripping the music files using the method sugested above is the only way to go. :(

Regarding the BG2 Collector's Edition CD:

When I put it in my CD player, and press the skip forward button, the soundtrack starts!

33 or so tracks, if I remember correctly.

Not sure about where to get TOB music.
Why is it that whenever I finally get around to playing a new game for the first time,
I feel like playing Baldur's Gate for the second time...

Yes the first track is not audio data, its part of the bonus CD features.

There are more than one download location for the BG soundtrack, Bioware/Interplay had it up on their website a long time ago, so it should be scattered around the internet in a few places. Use google :o

Worth the search, IMO. The music from all of the Bioware Infinity Engine games are amazing.
