He should wait for you where you dropped him off, and you should be able to pick him up later in the game if you'd like to have him in your party again.

Montaron is an evil character, so if you do too many good deeds and have a reputation around 18 or above with him before you drop him, he'll get mad and tell you to #@$% off. If this happens, you can't pick him up anymore as an NPC, because he leaves the game altogether. If your reputation is lower than 17 or so, then he should just wait around for you for a while, if not forever. It's fun tramping back to your early stomping grounds later in the game to find an NPC you dropped off loyally waiting for your return, though some like Edwin get rather pissed and leave right after for making them wait too long. This happens most frequently with NPCs that have time related quests: Edwin, Kivan, Minsc, etc.

ah fair enough, thanks for that. the reason i got rid of that person was because of him being chaotic evil or whatevr he is, and me being the total opposite i guessed he might leave soon. i did think about leave garrick. he is the most pompous guy going, his singing is just comical tho. i noticed early on when i was losing fights he just ran away like a little girl. and what is it with minsc and boo the rat?? does it actually do anything or is it some other comical stuff they makers just thought "lets throw it in".

Minsc and Boo are one of the most famous dynamic duos of the Realms! This was just somebody's joke. Minsc and Boo are also in BGII. Boo is a miniature giant space hamster that poor old Minsc carries around with and talks too. Minsc has been hit in the head a few too many times, so take it easy on him and his hamster. Minsc is a great NPC, so try him out or use him in another game. His dialogues are funny.

Boo is a hamster, not a rat. There has been much speculation on the subject, but after playing through the entire Baldur's Gate series, I for one am convinced that he really IS a miniature giant space hamster. When Minsc gets confused (as he is apt to do), Boo "talks" to him and clarifies the matter for him. When Minsc yells, "Go for the eyes, Boo!" you're supposed to imagine that Boo really is attacking your opponents alongside Minsc. Boo is living proof that even small creatures can win the day if they try hard enough. I really enjoy having Minsc and Boo in my party, because they epitomize heroism.

The people who created the game used to play Dungeons & Dragons together. Some of the characters in the Baldur's Gate series were based on the designers' favorite characters, including Minsc and Boo. One character (Xan) shares a name with one of the original pen-and-paper characters, but otherwise, there is no resemblance. If you can believe the behind-the-scenes gossip, Xan's original creator was kind of ticked off when "Xan" turned out to be a pessimistic, whiny Mage. :) If you play Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn, you'll meet a couple of other characters who were based on the designers' original pen-and-paper characters (Anomen and Bodhi). They're not the most likable characters in the world, and that's partly because the original pen-and-paper characters were troublemakers who loved getting their own party in trouble. It gives them "character". :)

To return to your original question about removed party members, I should warn you that the game is kind of buggy for some reason. Sometimes when a dismiss a member of your party, he won't be where you left him the next time you enter the area; but later, he might return. Also, sometimes NPCs are angry when you dismiss them and they appear to run off for good (this happened to me with Montaron and Kivan), but the next time I entered the area, they were waiting for me and willing to rejoin my party. So be aware that you should expect inconsistent results.

I always have a problem with Kagain waiting around for me and then bolting as soon as I show up to collect him again. He always complains about not having found his missing caravan, even though I've gone past it a few times minimum and he's said his usual line: "I've had enough of this, let's do what you guys want to do!" Is this a common bug or does Kagain just hate me for some reason?
For the noobs out there, VonDondu knows almost everything, so if you're stuck and if VonDondu doesn't mind, pose a question to the master!
If your stuck, make a post on the forum, that way other people can read the solution aswell.
Also try and keep this thread ontopic, and not a VonDondu commercial!
